Signs of teething???

What signs did your LO's exhibit when teething began??? Baby girl has been getting progressively cranky. She no longer sleeps through the night, which she's done since she was 3 weeks old. No bulging gums, that I can see. No redness. She is getting over a cold, so it could be an ear infection, although she's not pulling at her ears at all. Her waking up multiple times a night is whats most odd. Normally if she does, she'll self-soothe. She's inconsolable.

Re: Signs of teething???

  • My LO was the exact same.  Slept through the night really early and was not a fussy baby at all.  Randomly a month or so ago he started waking during the night.  We found if we used a pacifier he went right back to bed.  I wasn't sure if it was teething or an ear infection.  Turns out it was both.  His teeth never got red like everyone says they will.  Instead it looked like you could see something white (I now know that was a tooth) right under his gums.  For the teething portion of it, we learned that his pacifier (that he rarely used before now) worked wonders for his pain.  Try giving your LO tylenol before bed for the pain.

    Good Luck!!

Side note**  My LO has had 4 ear infections and has not grabbed his ears once.

I also googled pictures of infants teething to try to see if what I was looking at could be teething.

  • We couldn't even get a pacifier to soothe her. We did finally give her tylenol and got her calmed down, and she slept the rest of the night with no issues. I'm going to try to re-evaluate her gums & ears today, in better lighting. I may also call her ped and see if he wants us to bring her in, to check for ear infection. She's had one, and was otherwise happy & healthy. The one time she kept yanking on her ears, there was no infection

  • Extra crankiness, sleeps crappier ( usually cries when we put him down for bed or naps), hands in mouth 99.9% of time, drool factory, starts acting fussy taking bottles ( I think it bothers him to suck when he is teething).

  • With DS's first two teeth, he slept terribly! I mean, he was up 4-6 times a night. I usually nurse him and he falls right back to sleep, but he wouldn't even nurse to comfort. I never saw any signs visually on his gums that his teeth were coming through until they started to break the gums. With his top teeth, he would grind his bottom teeth against his top gums and drooled a ton. And he's had one more bottom one come in, and with that one I did see a white spot on the gum for about a week before it came in.
