Two Under 2

Picking up #1 after #2

Anyone remember when they were able to lift #1 without discomfort? I had a pretty decent delivery, but am definitely more sore than last time around. Today I pulled DD into my lap in the rocking chair and was discouraged by how just that seemed difficult (she's 31 lbs). I miss carrying her! She asks for DH to rock with her at night now since I haven't been able to get her into the crib on my own :(

  • I agree... 4 days out is still really early. You will get back to normal soon. It wasn't until my son got home from the NICU after 11 days that's I felt normal again. Anything before that and my bleeding would definitely tell me if I was doing too much. Oh and my DD was only 20lbs at the time, so I definitely wouldn't have been able to do 30+lbs...

  • DS1 was around 30 lbs and my doctor said 2 weeks of no lifting him. I did maybe 1 week and was okay after that. We did a lot of snuggling in mommy's bed (which he still loves to do now), climbing into mommy's lap, and time on the floor together those first few weeks.

Oh, and a lot of nights I would rock him before bed for stories and a song and then DH would come put him in bed. Good luck!

2 weeks definitely sounds reasonable. DH is home that long so I'm trying to be extra cautious in hopes I'll be ready for more when he goes back to work. I wasn't given a timeline, just told not to lift anything heavier than the baby and make a 6 week follow up. There would be no way to go 6 weeks without lifting her! She has no interest in snuggling right now, I think she's a little resentful at the moment.

When DD2 was 5 days old, DD1 got really sick (super high fever, ect..). Of course, being her mommy, she wanted me for comfort. I was carrying her up and down the stairs and thought I was fine....so I continued....until a few days later when I started bleeding HEAVILY. TMI, but I was soaking through the large pads they give you at the hospital in less then a minute. It was very scary. I ended up in the ER and all was fine...but I certainly learned my lesson ;) Even when you "feel" ok, it's best to give it some time and let your body heal.

    Congrats on your LO! :)
