1st Trimester

2nd time mamas, any input?

So, this is going to sound really weird. I've had some pretty regular cramping for the past 2 weeks. They hurt, but are not too bad, and I haven't had any bleeding. The thing is, they feel EXACTLY like BH contractions. I looked it up, and BH contractions start at around 6 weeks, you just aren't supposed to feel them until later because your ute is still so small. So, am I nuts or could this be what I am feeling? The only thing that is different about them is that they don't stop if I rest or drink water. In fact, they actually happen a lot more when I am just lying around. Any input? Advice? Am I just a loonie? Haha

  • honestly, i never even thought about it. i have some fairly serious cramping even now a month after my BFP, but i remember i cramped a lot in the beginning with my last pregnancy. i never even considered BH! but since everything is looser the 2nd time around, it's a definite possibility that that's what you're feeling.

  • I never thought about it until now either. They feel like tightening, rather than period-like, if that makes sense. I can barely remember the things I felt with the beginning of my last pregnancy but my H says he remembers me complaining a lot about cramping haha. BTW, your little girl is so cute!

I always thought it was odd if anyone felt them this early, but this weekend I was on my feet A LOT and not drinking nearly the ammount of water as I should, and I had a lot of cramping.. some of it came and went like I'd assume BH contractions would.

That was my wakeup call to take it easy and make sure I stay hydrated, but I think if you're having it happen very often regardless of what you do, it's worth a mention to your OB.

  • Thanks :) When I was pg with my son, I think the first one I had was when I was about 18 weeks, and I thought that was early (It was definitely a lack of rest and water type thing), but I think I might mention this to my midwife because it does seem pretty weird that they are so constant and stubborn.

  • I think the fact that you know what BH are & feel like, and the fact that your ute is less "toned" since having previous pregnancies is why people feel them earlier the 2nd time around.  I have talked to several women who seemed to feel them early.  They do start early, but most women don't feel or recognize what they are like you said before.

  • Could this be what is going on with me? I don't remember having any early cramping with my first LO, but I was up all last night with cramps that didn't feel like AF cramps, but were still strong and painful. I'm worried because I don't get to see an OB until week 12. Ugh! So much uncertainty with pregnancy.
