Success after IF

WWYD? TI or IUI?

Ok, so let's assume I respond to Clomid this time around. I'm going back and forth about whether we should do TI or IUI. Part of me wants to save $$ and go for the TI but the other part wants to "go big or go home" and do IUI. My thinking is that if we do TI and it doesn't work, I'll be beating myself up for not only getting the IUI but we'd be paying more $$$ anyway for the second cycle. So doing IUI is the only logical thing to do, right?

Backstory: I've never had an IUI before. My son was conceived with TI 3 years ago. A few months ago we did TI/Clomid again and we got a BFN.

Re: WWYD? TI or IUI?

  • I personally would go with IUI.  It puts more sperm up nearer where it needs to go.  But then again, I'd also go with injectibles over clomid.  But that's because clomid hates me and I don't respond to it anyway.  Injectibles were much nicer to me and everyone else around me ;)

    Good luck!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I would do the IUI. Actually--do both if you don't have any MF... :)

That way, you have no regrets. Wishing you the best of luck!

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • That's what I figured. IUI it is! (technically, it'll be both, like radler mentioned) Now I just need to pray that I even have a response!

    Thanks for your input, girls!

  • I would do the IUI, but that is because Clomid HATES me and I would want to be on it for as few cycles as possible.

  • I'd do IUI.  The one time I responded to Clomid, we did TI and I didn't get pregnant (this was while I was under the care of my gynocologist).  After visiting with my RE, she said she always does IUI with clomid.  Wishing so much that I had done IUI because I never responded to Clomid again and had to later fork our big $$ for IVF.

    Good luck!

    several failed cycles on clomid and lose dose injectibles, IUI #1 2009 - BFN IUI #2 2009 - BFP - boy/girl twins born at 31 weeks. IVF #1= BFN; FET #1 = c/p; FET #2 = c/p, FET #3 = negative, FET #4 = positive, baby stillborn at 24 weeks.
  • I would do IUI as well; I know I said in a PP that I don't know how much difference there is, but I agree...I think you will regret not doing the IUI if this cycle fails.  I also don't know how much the IUI is for you, but for us it wasn't a purse-breaker in terms of ruining other plans.

Also, can you see how you respond and go from there?  If you have only so-so response can you just do TI?  (based on cost)

    GL, really rooting for you!
