1st Trimester

No appetite?

I've found that since my BFP, I've had literally no appetite.  It isn't nausea, and I'm not really disgusted by food - I just don't feel hungry, almost all the time.  There have been a few times so far that my stomach has started growling at me before I realized I should eat something.

Under normal, non-pregnant conditions I wouldn't be as concerned about it, although yesterday I stepped on the scale and saw that I'd lost almost 2 lbs.  I'm wondering if maybe I should set an alarm for myself to remember to have somthing to eat.  Have any of you experienced this at all?

Re: No appetite?

  • Haven't lost any weight because of it, but yes, I am also missing my appetite. Just not hungry at all until the heartburn kicks in to tell me, "Hey, genius, you need to eat."

How far along are you? When do you next see your doctor?

  • I have the same worries. At first I was eating like crazy, but then I started getting nauseous and hating pretty much all food. Now I try to consciously think about it and make myself eat one of the 5 things that sound appealing. I think setting an alarm sounds like a good idea. I've heard it's better to eat a lot of small meals throughout the day. GL

  • Thanks, at least I know I'm not alone now!  I'm 6 weeks, next dr. visit is next week.  I only started to worry a little when I saw there was some weight loss, but I'm going to try my best to but a stop to that.

  • Weight loss is relatively normal in the first tri specially with the nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.  As long as its not massive amounts (like no dieting) Just try to eat a little something when you can to be sure that YOU are getting some nutrients but the vitamin is helping with that just need some carbs and proteins. Try drinking a glass of milk or maybe some toast and peanut butter.  Whatever you find you are able to eat, eat that.  The alarm sounds like a good idea...I too find myself like"I'm not hungry but I should probably eat something." So you aren't alone!! :) hope your eating gets easier!
  • I have the same issue. I'm not nauseous, but I have no appetite at all. I've been making myself eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I also drink lots of fluids, including a glass of V8 fusion everyday, and take my vitamin. I'm down a pound or two. I just keep telling myself my appetite will come ack in the 2nd trimester and I'm almost there.

  • my appetite has fluctuated quite a bit throughout the first tri. i had a few weeks where i didn't want much and a few weeks where i wanted EVERYTHING. i say trust your instincts and eat when you're hungry or when you get some other signal (like your brain telling you!) and don't stress. most likely it will change soon!
