Success after IF

Does your LO act like you?

Sorry, couldn't think of how to word this (severely sleep deprived at the moment)!

Do you notice your LO (older toddlers & preschoolers) picking up your or your DH's/SO's ways of speaking, gestures, etc.?

For some reason, Cal has picked up a lot of mine, but fewer of DH's.  I am very expressive and animated when I speak...sing-songy...with lots of inflection, and hand gestures.  By contrast, DH is soft-spoken and less expressive.  Cal does all of the same things I do.  It's uncanny.  If he were older it would probably come across as effeminate, but at his age it's just cute.  I wish I could show you!  Last night, DH & I were talking about it and he was laughing because while I was talking about how Cal acts like me, I was doing all of the things he does.  :)  Anyway, I wonder if this is a short-lived phase or if it'll stick with him?  Anyone know if they tend to grow out of that or if that's how he's going to be from now on?

Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
Life is beautiful!

Re: Does your LO act like you?

  • I feel like WE pick up more of HIS habits because they are adorable...  haha!  I'm guessing as he gets older we will see him acting more like US though.  I think its common...how many times have you met people who sound/act JUST LIKE one of their parents (or siblings)?  Very fun that he's mimicking you!!

  • Yes. I have a way of humming (without noticing I am doing it really) when I am doing something and now D hums too almost most the day. He also has some of Hs facial expressions, so right now I would say it is a 50/50 mix of both of us.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Yep! DH tends to say "Hey, look at that!" in a certain inflection when Toodle does something cute or impressive or the like, and now Toodle says it ALL THE TIME in the exact same way. He also picks up little phrases of mine, like if something almost falls or is missing or anything like that I tend to say "oop" instead of "oops" and he'll say stuff like "I have all my guys!..." then pause and realize daddy's in the other room and he'll say "oop, daddy's missing!". Hehe. I love it!

  • Not so much with the things ds says but...oh my gosh- when it comes to ds's personality being exactly like mine, it freaks me out big time.  He handles frustration the same way I do, he reacts the same way when someone tries to step in and help out when he has difficulty with something, he never wants to go to bed- ever.  I could go on and on.  I don't know if that means he's mature for his age or I act like a 4 year old!!!

The good thing is that I know how to "handle him" a lot of times.  When dh gets frustrated by ds's very strong personality, I'll tell him how to deal with it.  Every time it works.  I know what works for me and what doesn't work (i.e. make me laugh - don't order me to do something) and it works on ds too.  I'll have to remember that when he's a teenager!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • Yes, he has picked up so many phrases I use. A big one is that I say come here, or come on, and now he says "mere mommy" or "mon mommy" it cracks me up! I am also a big eye roller, so he has now mastered how to roll his eyes. He also only picks up the swears when I say them, Dh says its because I am so animated when I say them and I make it look more fun lol great!
