Dizzy / Drunk Feeling Spells

I recently started getting a little sick to my stomach, before breaking out into a cold sweat and the room starts to spin.  I only really only had morning sickness with DS a hand full of times, but never episodes like this.  I have never had episodes like this period.  Yesterday, I laid down and the room was spinning.  It seriously reminds me of how I feel when I have had too much to drink.  Anyone else had anything like this?

Re: Dizzy / Drunk Feeling Spells

  • That may not be pregnancy related. My husband had something similar happen a couple of years ago in the early Spring. It was called labyrinthitis. He would get really bad episodes of vertigo and would vomit. They told him it had something to do with the weather change. I would call your PCP.

  • I haven't been having the room spinning feeling, but do get episodes of dizziness and lightheadedness.  I assumed those were pregnancy symptoms.  If the spinning continues, I agree with PP, and call your doc.

  • I had exactly the same thing a few weeks ago with the cold sweats, etc.

It felt like an anxiety attack but I think it was a combination of wacky blood pressure and low blood sugar

Even though I had had a snack just before, I had a solid meal and felt a lot better.

Pregnancy can do some wacky things to your blood pressure.

  • My body is very prone to the dizzy spells, so i do experience this anytime Im sick including MS. I've met many gals who feel this way during their MS months!

  • Make sure you're drinking lots of water. Pregnanct can do all sorts of things. I have been sick to my stomach and have had headaches and it seems like between the two it would make me dizzy also.

  • Low blood sugar can absolutely do this.  If it happens again, try drinking a few ounces of juice (gets the sugar in quickly) and eating a little something (like peanut butter toast or cheese and crackers).  Definitely drink water too- that can also do it.

Pregnant women are also prone to dizziness because as our body produces additional red blood cells to support our baby, our blood pressure drops.  If you have normal, or lower blood pressure normally, you could be dropping to a true low.  Definitely talk to your OB about this though.  Most often it is best to go to your OB first with any strange symptom, and if they want to refer you out they will.  PCP's usually aren't fully educated (or actively using their knowledge) on the special needs of a pregnant woman.

  • I had exactly the same thing around the 4-6week range.  I now just get kinda dizzy without the room spinning every now and then.  My doc told me it's norm and due to high levels of progestrone.
