Sip and see party question...

We are planning to have a sip and see party to show off the baby after he arrives, but I am not sure how long we should wait. I already have people saying that they are going to come see the baby (not CAN we come see the baby, but that they WILL be coming!) and to avoid a million people stopping by all at different times I wanted to ask that everyone wait for the party, so I didn't want to wait too long, but I want LO to be healthy/old enough to handle people coming to see him. Any advice on how old he should be before we have this party (assuming he is born healthy and there are no other complications)? TIA.

Re: Sip and see party question...

  • What is a sip and see party? That sounds fun! We told out of town guests that they had to wait 2 weeks before they could come and spend the night.  I think 2 weeks is a good time because you will have gotten your routine down by then probably.

  • From what I've read, a sip and see is a casual party to show off the baby (refreshments = "sip" baby = "see"). We're planning of getting some cold cuts and sandwich stuff, small appetizers, etc and cake and just inviting people over around lunch time....kind of like an open house...drop by anytime between x and y, there will be food and a really cute baby!!! I was thinking 2-3 weeks old too, but I wasn't sure if that was too young so I wanted everyone else's opinions!

  • It would really depend who would be coming and how many people for me. If it were just a few close family members, I would have it at 3 weeks or so when I was feeling better/up to it. However, if you're expecting many guests, I would wait. I would not want that many people holding my newborn and things will likely still be pretty hectic that early. The people I know that have had them have them at 8 weeks or so.

  • We're doing one...I think our timeframe is about 2 weeks, depending on when that falls. We won't set the date til I deliver, but that's what I'm thinking-ish.  To avoid people from coming before that, we've been telling people that we will be having a party when the baby is born.  That takes away most of their steam (I'm hoping!) to stop by before then.

ETA: I'm actually not hosting it at my house, either...my sister is hosting it at hers, so that means that I don't need to feel majorly up to a lot of work.  My sister will do most of the work and I just get to show up.  (I'll be helping more than that, but it does mean that I don't have to worry about my house being a disaster!)
