Parenting after 35

when did you feel normal again?

I'm 8+ weeks postpartum and I didn't expect to still feel sore and be suffering with hemorrhoids this long.  How long did it take you to feel normal (physically) after giving birth vaginally?  I feel like it's interfering with how well I can take care of the baby.  Thankfully I have a great husband who takes care of her when he's home for quite a bit.  But it would be nice if I could give him a break.

Re: when did you feel normal again?

  • I didn't have hemorrhoids, but I had tons of stitches and my nether-regions didn't feel normal for at least 2 months.

  • I had a c-section with complications afterwards, but it was a good (bad) couple of months before I felt "normal"...whatever that is!

Your body just went through helll... gonna take a while to remind it that you're no longer pregnant.

I still don't completely.  Pain disappeared after the first 2 months.  No pain now but it's kind of cavernous down there.  Well, feels like it anyway.  Less like sex and more like spelunking...

I hear ya on the cavernous comment.  I feel like I might be the same way, but I'm definitely not in the mood to try.

  • I'm 9 months pp, and I feel close to normal but not 100%. Everything is much better now. Doctor says to allow up to a full year, but even then I think I'll have a new "normal."

Snicker. Yup, that sounds familiar. I have a new normal. PP the first time, I stopped being sore at about 12 weeks. Now, it was just 2 (go figure, she was the biggest). But my body has had the crap kicked out of it and the rest of the recovery, muscular, is still a work in progress.

  • A lot longer than I was expecting.  I ended up with hemorrhoids too, and also had an episiotomy.  Sex hurt for a looooong time...I remember telling my doctor about it 6 months after giving birth.  She told me it takes some women up to a year to feel "back to normal" after a vaginal birth.

  • I healed quickly but I didn't feel like my old, sexy self until LO turned 1 year old! That's how long it took to get my mojo back, lol. I had a vaginal birth with episiotomy and everything is more or less back to normal but I need Super size tampons now, whereas I used to be fine with Regular. It's definitely a bit more stretched out down there Embarrassed
