Need AP advice on sleeping

My baby is almost 6 months old and sleeps in his own bed, and has since 3 months. He gradually was sleeping longer periods, and even down to one wake up until about 3 weeks ago. Then he has started waking every two hours and wants to nurse back to sleep. 

I kind of feel like I don't want to push him into sleep training because I feel like he needs me. He wouldn't wake up and cry if he didn't, right? And then another part of me feels like maybe he is just in a habit, and I really want to sleep...

Can you advise this sleepless momma on what I can do best for my baby?

DD was very wakeful at six months.

Is he teething?  Growth spurt? 

We didn't sleep train at all.  If DD woke up, we tended to her.  We still do now (although she doesn't really wake anymore).
