Anybody bored on bedrest?

My SIL just sent me this:  PENGUIN CAM!

https://dsc.discovery.com/tv/frozen-planet/penguin-cam/?fb_ref=fb2&fb_source=home_oneline

(Admittedly, I have a thing for penguins, but I hope some of you find that as entertaining as I do!  Totally perked me up . . . )

Anybody else have favorite websites for when you're bored?

ETA:  sorry not clicky, on a mac.  Hey Bump, ever think about getting on THAT instead of "upgrades" that no one likes?

  • I will add this to my repertoire, I am just starting week 2 on bed rest and have my older kids half the week (over the weekend) to distract me, but I do get a little stir crazy during the week!

Why are you on BR?  I have a dynamically shortening cervix!

  • Errr, I'm not on bed rest, I'm on "bed rest":  I'm supposed to spend about 95% of my time horizontal, but its not b/c the baby's in any danger, its b/c I blew out my back.  (I feel like a schmuck saying I'm on BR when I don't have that worry, even though I was told by the doc to spend my time lying down when I'm not at the dr's or in physical therapy.)

They're afraid I've either reherniated a disk in my back I had operated on years ago, or herniated a new disk.  I can't sit or stand for more than like 5 minutes without being in pain, and I'm supposed to just lie down when I'm not at the doctor's or in physical therapy until I get MRI results and they can figure out what to do with me.  They gave me good pain killers in the meantime . . . Amazing that you can't take advil while pregnant, but things with a high street value are apparently just fine!

Best of luck with your cervix!

  • Bed rest is bed rest from a boredom perspective!  Sorry you're in so much pain though :(. My happy irony is that my SI joint pain was almost debilitating, but my other bed rest seems to make it feel much better as well.

And another funny, I have been prescribed Advil by my MFM as it can slow down contractions (only before 32 weeks, after it can cause other issues with the of) with only minor effect.  The pharmacist was curious about that when we filled the prescription, but I have heard this elsewhere before.

I have been spending most of my time selling random cloth diapers I don't want and sending my husband to the PO to mail him, much to his chagrin.  I'll go back to work (from home) Tuesday if my Monday appointment goes well!

  • Huh, I didn't know that about Advil!  I'll refrain from mentioning that to my OB . . . I don't want my percocet revoked!  (Wonder if the advil is helping with your SI?)

I've been working from home since Tuesday, and its going much better than I would have thought, and my boss and co-workers have been terrific.

My DH has been a total champ about doing stuff for me, and boy has there been a lot for him to do.  My major victory of the day was being able to put on underwear all by myself for the first time in over a week!

  • My SI started improving before the Advil but you are right it was miracle-style better as soon as I started!  My husband told me last week that he will NEVER complain when he's on the sofa and I ask for help again as he now sees how hard doing all the household duties is.  It has been good marriage therapy :). He's pretty good in general but he definitely gets more downtime than I do.  I'm taking mine all now, ha!

I know I was given some percoset while nursing/in the hospital with my eldest, so as narcoticky as it is, must not be too bad.  I think it was a fairly low dose though...

Hope your back feels better soon!  Any eta to freedom?

I am also starting week 2 on bed rest.  I have spent most of my time on the computer, reading, or watching tv.  Mostly I have been stalking my registry, researching vaccine and cord blood information, and trying to find a dress for my shower, which I'd better make it to!  I've also had time to call HR about maternity leave and also our insurance company to have the baby added.  So, I guess I have been somewhat productive.

Thanks for the website.  Hope you girls are staying busy!

I'll know more after we get the MRI back.  If its muscular, I may be able to start easing back into normal activity as soon as next week!  If its the disk . . . that would be bad.

Are you stuck until you're "full term" or is there a sooner end in sight?

Ugh, I know!  Mine's coming up on the 14th . . .  At this point I think I'll make it, though I may have to spend it lying down on a couch!

Know how long you're stuck for?
