How safe is it to try and lose weight during the first trimester? I have a little fat in the areas of my legs and midsection that I would like to trim down and lose the extra fat before the baby weight comes in. I'm not over weight but feel it would be better to lose the extra fat now. What are your opinions or advice on the topic? I would just be tryin to be more active and be doing running/ jogging and walking to burn the fat off.
Re: Safe to lose weight during 1st tri?
I'm 5 weeks, I've always been active just always off and on, wanted to stared regardless since I was pregnant jusf to be healthy. Nothing serious maybe just even walking a lot. But I have done Crossfit and running so I wanted to maybe incorrportate those in moderation and in lower intensity or what I feel would be safe.( as far as Crossfit goes)

I'm in a similar position. I spoke with my doctor about my weight and exercise and she told me that she doesn't want me starting anything too strenuous (she joking said "I don't want you to start training to climb mountains or anything") but I can work out however I want, as long as I feel good.
You don't want to push yourself so hard that you can't carry on a conversation while working out (decreases oxygen to the baby), but other than that, working out is fine. My doctor also said that losing some weight is ok, but I should focus more on a total weight gain of about 15 lbs with this baby. So, I intrepreted that, as, I need to work to control my weight so that any pounds I do put on are only from the baby, not from any extra I am putting on myself.
In my particular case, over working out has never really been my issue, hence the extra pounds I need to drop!
