I figure since this is going to be my everything bag (I refuse to carry a diaper bag AND a bag for me) I should love it. I like simple and these nylon totes are about as simple as it gets. I'll probably buy an organizer insert to make it more functional, and I love that if anything spills, it's no big deal because it's nylon. I was loving the Marc Jacobs Elizababy bag, but thought twice about cloth.
Just wondering if anyone else went this route and could chime in with a yay or nay... and if you have an insert recommendation, please share!
Re: Longchamp Le Pliage Large Tote as diaper bag?
I use it now as a diaper bag, but only because my son is now a toddler and doesn't require much. I throw a couple diapers, wipes, and snacks inside a diaper clutch and toss it in the Longchamp. In the early days though, there's no way it would work. Before baby, I bought a Kate Spade Stevie bag and thought it was huge and ridiculous - surely I wouldn't need all that space. So I resold it. Wrong!! I ended up bursting through my medium handbag sized diaper bags with all the bottles, diapers, toys, change of clothes, etc.
Even with an insert, the structure of the Le Pliage is such that it would never be functional, I promise. Inserts are meant for more boxy, smaller bags. With all the crap you need, you want it easily accessible, not in the middle of your bag because your insert flopped inward.
Now....when your baby is a year old like mine, you can carry much, much lighter and the Le Pliage works. In fact, the other day my sons milk Thermos leaked all over the interior...I rinsed it clean, hung it up, and it was dry and odor free by morning.
i love these totes and use them everyday as a purse, but it's hard to imagine it working as a diaper bag even with an insert. i suppose it would all depend on the quality of fit between the insert you get and the bag, but i foresee a lot of things getting lost in the cavernous depths of a le pliage, insert or no.
do you plan on mostly having your stroller with you when you have your baby around? if so, maybe you could get a diaper bag that snaps to the handle of the stroller (like a skip hop) - that way you can wear your purse and still have another bag for baby.
