Cloth Diapering

im a newbie

I am currently pregnant with my first child, I am only 12 weeks along now but i am very interested in cloth diapers when my baby does come. However i am completely clueless where to even start. I have heard that it is best to use disposable diapers for at least the first 3-6 months. I would love to begin prepping for this as soon as possible so any tips for a first timer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)

  • I think most of us would agree that it is terrific to start CDing from birth. I wonder why you were given that advice.... Check the FAQs at the top of the board. Super helpful. Also a lot of .coms have loads of info about CDing. Check Abbys Lane, Jillians Drawers and Green Mountain Diaper (just to name afew). Then check back with specific questions. Everyone here is amazing. Very patient and helpful.

  • First 3-6 months?!  No way.  I wish I had started earlier!  Just for recovery's sake, I would say for the first week or two if your laundry is on a different floor, but bm/formula poop is water soluable, so you won't have to rinse the poop or anything other than toss in the washer.

Check out the FAQs, and read about the different types of diapers.  Start with finding a type or a few types you would like to try, then look in to brands and fabrics.  I personally have them all - AIO, pockets, fitteds, prefolds, and hybrids.  Figure out what is important to you (price, drying time, ease of use, time between diaper changes) first, then work from there.

  • Ok thanks everyone for the advice. Luckily I have lots of time before my baby is here so I'm off to do research :)
