Baby Names

Names!

We are having a daughter and picked out the names a long time ago.

Kennedy Raye

Talking to my dad, he mentions honoring my gramma, who is still with us, but in a nursing home, and he told me to think really hard about using her name. Which would change her name to:

Kennedy Sheila Raye

Is it too long? Our last name is 7 letters... Don't know what to think.

Re: Names!

  • I wouldn't add an extra middle name if that's not already a long-standing family tradition. Maybe Kennedy Shaye, combining the two? I don't normally approve of smush names, but with the family significance and since it's a middle name, I think it's fine in this case.

  • It isn't my taste but if YOU like it, use it. YOU being the key word, here. Your dad already had the opportunity to name his child(ren) and shouldn't pressure you to name your child what he wants.

  • My kids and I all have two middle names, as do a lot of people. Some on this board might give you flack about it but it has never been a big deal for me and my last name is eight letters so it does not seem long to me.

    This, big time.

Honor her if YOU want to.

I'm not personally a fan of double middle names.

  • It all depends on what you personally like. I think it sounds nice.

I agree. I also think that if it wasn't your idea to honour her by using her name, then why do it because someone suggested it to you?

I like the PP's suggestion of Kennedy Shaye.

  • I have actually been thinking about it since WAY before I ever got pregnant. I like it and think it sounds good, but my daughter will have it FOREVER haha. So I don't want people to be like "what the heck were they thinking? that sounds dumb." And my gramma is such an amazing woman I want to do it. But I don't like Theresa (her middle name) so much.

  • I'm not a fan of multiple mn.  It is a pain to deal with later in life in terms of documents and the like.

Also, I wouldn't let anyone pressure you to change something you like unless you are okay with it and it's something that makes you happy.  It's nice to honor people, but there are plenty of ways to do so.
