Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I was on the BF board this week and didn't open that one. I think she's just trying to make a point. I think it's funny that not too many people responded. Usually MUD posts get a lot of response but everybody's just like, umm.... okay....
It's funny because I started thinking the other day - I had a lot of trouble at the beginning, my milk seemed to take FOREVER to come in, and it really upset me to supplement with formula. So I started to try to figure out if I could pump some after DS weans completely, store it in my friend's deep freezer, if it would still be good for hypothetical LO#2... then I decided I was crazy and quit trying to do the math. But I guess there are many women who just continuously breastfeed through a couple of children (some of the pregnant women on this board will, I assume). We probably won't have LO#2 til DS is 3, so I don't think that'll be the case for me.
So I started snooping around, and she really doesn't post very often. I'm thinking it was a dare from and outside/secret group. Otherwise she would have needed to create an AE to hide the post string.
Yes. I remember my LC talking about how bad they were. However, according to her story she didn't stop nursing until he was 6. So it would only be 12 years. And come on ladies, this is so believable!!! I mean, the two younger children would have brought her supply right back up. Duh

I would doubt any Gold poster would admitt this if it were even true so it must be a dare....from somewhere. Were there even breast pumps 18 yrs ago?
MH's grandma had issues drying up or something, but she had a pump. She said it resembled a bicycle horn, and it hurt. I just have this visual of hand pumping and honking everytime Ithink about it. lol!

DH's aunt told me she used a breast pump 31 years ago with her daughter. I never asked her about it, but I assumed it was a hand pump.
31 yrs ago?! Wow!!!!

I totally choked on my Mother's Milk Tea reading this.
I don't want to step on any toes, especially since I didn't BF or pump, but isn't it a little odd that she was still BFing a six year old?
It's definitely odd, in that most people don't do that, but I think it's a "to each their own" situation. But, yeah, not normal, just not necessary icky, IMO.
There was some talk a while back about a woman who had a crazy amount of frozen BM and her husband was going to try and live off of it. I wonder what became of that?
Not to sound like a crazy person, but there is no age when BM stops being good for you, so it (theoretically and hypothetically) wouldn't really be outrageous for an older kid to drink it instead of cow's milk. That being said, pumping for 12 years? Hell no! I barely pump now and I would not be down for that crap. I'd like LO to have BM until around the age of 2, but I wouldn't EP past one year, I don't think. I do tell people I'll try to wean by high school

Apparently he did it for a week but with all the internet chatter about the blog, they were able to find a local family in need of it. So I'm glad that worked out.
While I do not believe that post was real, it is interesting to note that there are cultures where extended breast-feeding is absolutely the norm. This article, "Breastfeeding in the Land of Genghis Khan," is an absolutely fascinating look at breastfeeding in Mongolia and made me think a lot about *why* our culture generally thinks extended breastfeeding is so weird.
"In Mongolia, there?s an oft-quoted saying that the best wrestlers are breastfed for at least six years?a serious endorsement in a country where wrestling is the national sport... Not only do Mongolians breastfeed for a long time, they do so with more enthusiasm and less inhibition than nearly anyone else I?ve met. In Mongolia, breast milk is not just for babies, it?s not only about nutrition, and it?s definitely not something you need to be discreet about."

As much as I was interested in seeing a grownup try to live on BM, it is awesome that those quads were helped.

Book Kitten. I effing love this article. I read it very early on when DD was maybe a few weeks and it stuck with me so much that I had to read the entire thing to DH. I really think it helped him to really appreciate BF'ing as much as I do.
I do not plant to BF as long as that cultrue does, maybe 18 months, but that artice is just awesome. It really stuck with me and I think about it ALL the time, almost daily I think. I also think that "my ways" of BF'ing DD were greatly molded by that article. Specifically the "boob cures all" mentality. How she wrote that every time a baby cried the boob was the solution. I stuck by that mantra fully and still do often. I often think about the best wrestlers part Yeah. I am going to stop rambling but yeah, that makes me all warm and fuzzy. lol
Oh and yeah, definitely MUD. I was 100% for sure when she said her son came home and told her he wished he could still nurse. lmao

I think I'm pretty much of the same mentality. She used to have really goopy eyes and I would squirt a little in her eye and it cleared up...the goop has come back recently but my shot isn't as good as it was when my supply was strong lol
And yeah, I saw your response...depending on how old he was when he got into the fight, it could be true that he said it...Jeff's cousing BF her son until almost 4. He's 8 now and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he said something like that...now when he's 15 that would be a different story!

Re: You've got to read this!
i can't believe that this is not MUD...
i have a friend who was BF until he was 6 (6!!!!) and he has so many emotional issues from it, i can't even imagine this!
Come on really? And she was looking for support??? Please... that is a little insane if you ask me.

Maybe her main posting board is like ours and has several Bumpies on her FB... And it was a group dare on FB or something.

this is exactly what I was thinking.
I know, right!? I can't imagine what 12 more months would be like... Let alone 12 more years!

I dont even know what to say to that. People have too much time on their hands to make crap like this up!!!

It's an April Fool's Joke if you read to the bottom.
