June 2011 Moms

Clicky: Leaving LO overnight

BIL and SIL want us to go out with them for the night on Friday. We've never left LO overnight but I really would like to go. Maybe if it goes well we could take a night for our anniversary too (in a few months). Anyway, just wondering about the other June mommas!![Poll]

Re: Clicky: Leaving LO overnight

  • April 13th our church is doing a marriage conference at a hotel.  We're staying overnight and my parents are coming over to watch the boys.  I'm SO excited for a night away.  Even though my kiddos are both out from 7:30-7 a.m. (I'd much rather someone take them during the day than at night!) it still will be great to get out.

  • We just left her for the first time this past weekend for my SIL's wedding.  We had so much fun...it was the best thing we've done for ourselves in a long time.  DD did great and now I'm tempted to do a long weekend getaway with DH sooner rather than later.

  • I voted 'no, but will soon.'  We don't have anything planned yet, but I'm hoping V can visit my parents and ILs for a couple overnights this summer.  (They all live about 2 hours from us) I'd like him to get used to this now in case he has to stay with them for some reason in the future.  The younger he gets used to it, the better I think.  Plus, I loved sleeping over at my grandparents' house as a kid and I hope he does too.

ETA:  The main reason we haven't done it yet is BFing.  Once he weans in the next few months, I will be all for it.

  • I have no problem leaving her, we just haven't had anything that would take us away from home overnight. We'd like to go do a couple of nights in a hotel somewhere, but we don't have the money right now. And since LO STTN and has for a while, we really have don't feel any burning need to get away from her for a night. She goes to bed at 7, we don't hear from her until the next morning, so we hang out in the evenings. And I'd rather feed her at 5am than wake up at 5am to pump!

  • Well i'm pretty jealous that your LO is that good of a sleeper. My LO use to be until we hit teething and it went all to sh*t. He normally ends up in bed with me at some point through out the night and thats why I am so worried about leaving him i guess.
  • We wouldn't mind leaving our LO with my parents, but we haven't had a reason to. It would have to be a special occasion (like a wedding or something where it wouldn't just be the two of us alone) since my parents also watch LO during the week while we're working. We don't have anyone else in the area that could watch him overnight.

  • Out of necessity at the end of July we left Ty with ILs one night and my parents the next while we were several states away in a wedding.  Then again we left him overnight a month later while we were at another wedding out of town.  Ever since then it's kind of been our monthly thing because our parents WANT to keep him overnight every once in awhile.  Every other month he stays with each of our parents while we do something just for us (usually a wedding, though we've also left him for our anniversary and my 30th surprise party).  We get a night to ourselves about 1x a month and he spends quality time with the grandparents every other month.  They all love it!

He see's MIL most Fridays, but she's also watching our niece so she never gets to spend time with just Ty like she wants to.  He doesn't get to see my parents as much because they're both taking care of my grandma's and it's too hard to take him to the grandma's houses for various reasons.

This is a great situation that works well for us!

  • I'm definitely not ready for that.  My sister is getting married 45 minutes away in August and I am the maid of honor.  Em is not invited (that is a whole other story that pisses me off).  But DH and I are driving home after instead of staying there.

  • Her first overnight is this Saturday. We are going away for a long weekend in June and my parents wanted to do a few trial runs with us still in the area. she just started STTN this month so I'm hoping it goes well.

  • I would love to do this but LO still gets up at night to nurse and I dont have milk saved up. I cant pump enough milk for him. I have some formula so maybe I could go that route.

    Gl leaving LO overnight!

  • I voted SS simply because it's not that we wouldn't... we just don't have anyone who will, unless it's an emergency situation. By now, I had left DS overnight a couple of times, for events and such.

  • I voted SS because we haven't left LO overnight but would if grandparents offered. There hasn't been a reason to leave him yet and the grandparents haven't asked for him to spend the night.
  • We are in the no, not planning too part. In January DH and I went to a dinner/movie date and my parents watched him. He screamed bloody murder when they put him to bed and we had to leave dinner early to calm him down/put to bed, then leave for the movie that we were late for. He needs the same exact routine everyday or forget it, epic meltdown.

  • I helped host a good friend's bachelorette party last weekend, so I had to spend the night away. (It sucked, by the way). DH was home with LO the whole time, though. I don't think I trust anyone else to stay with her just yet.

  • We got married on Labor Day weekend and like to go away to a B&B for our anniversary. We skipped it last year, but we're planning to do it this upcoming September, so that will be our first night away from LO. I think it'll be a good age, and my sister's already agreed to spend the night here.

I'd like to do 2 nights, but we're going to start slow.

  • I just cannot and won't any time soon. It would stress me out too much.
  • I voted yes just once but he stayed with his daddy. I had a baby shower to attend 5 hours from my home so i left C at home with his dad for the weekend. I was worried the whole time and did not stop missing him, but it was good for DH and DS to have time together! It was also good for DH to see what its like for me 24/7

I would love for DH to get to experience how my days are. I'm sure he thinks it's just all fun.
  • We did a quick overnight trip.  The first time I was away from my oldest was when I was in the hospital having my youngest, and I think that helped rip the band-aid off.  My youngest was 7 mo and my oldest was 2 when we went on a quick overnight trip.  It.was.AWESOME!

I am hoping to do it again when my mom is back in town for a few nights.  Oh, and my youngest slept through the night that night  - go figure!  Guess he knew he wasn't getting the boob...

  • I voted no and have no plans to but that's only because we have no plans to - nothing on the horizon that would warrant it.  If something were to come up I would leave him overnight at my mom's.  I'd probably be a little teary but it's gotta happen sometime and now that he's sleeping well I wouldn't feel bad subjecting someone to his million night wakings.

  • Yep- several times. Actually just got back from a 4 day cruise. He stays with my parents who watch him through the week when I'm at work. They pretty much have the whole set up, so it's not really that big of a deal.
