1st Trimester

Acid reflex medications that are safe, answers please!

Long story short i have a very severe case of GERD so i have been on medication for it the past year (which works wonders) but now that i'm pregnant i stopped taking it. I'm very careful about what i eat so it doesn't act up, but i also don't want to chance it, even though throughout pregnancy i know it can get worse. I was wondering what are some of the medications you ladies are on for acid reflex (if any yet) ? Obviously i will go to my doctor and get the final call, but just wanted some ideas of medications and if they work well!

Thanks ladies :)

H & H 9 months to you <3

Ahh that stinks! Yeah that won't be an option for me! I've had to go to the hospital multiple times because of it, but as of right now i'm not taking anything i'm trying to wait it out and hope that nothing acts up!

I also have GERD. My doctor told me to take the omeprazole because the benefits outweigh the risks. However, I've only taken it twice since because I'm extremely nervous of what the risks actually are. I've seen alot of people saying zantac, but it just doesn't work for me. I would call your doctor and ask.

Well i did speak with my doctor about it and they had be get off of it right away because last august i had a miscarriage, but i was on pepcid. So they thought that that could have caused it possibly, but i don't think so because i've done a LOT of research and it says the most common one for everyone to take IS omeprazole! (may i add this was my regular doctor and told me to get off of it, not the ob) So when i go next week i'm going to see what they think is best, because i obviously don't want to hurt the baby (obviously) but if it acts up, well i'm pretty much hospitalized. But again i havn't been eatting anything greasy or acid like for a long time so i'm hoping i'm safe without it :)

I saw that over the counter as well! I was looking at stuff while i was grocery shopping just to see the differences and what not! I'll be sure to ask about that one too :))

    Thanks ladies :)

  • Ginger root works perfectly and is completely safe and natural. I've been taking ginger root pills for 3 years and rarely get heartburn. I HIGHLY recommend trying.

  • Where can you get that at? Is it a certain brand? I'm up for trying anything (that is safe) Also do you take it daily?

  • I also have GERD, horrible horrible GERD. I take Prevacid 30mg (prescribed, but you can get 15mg over the counter now). I tried not taking it w/ my first pregnancy and woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was suffocating- that's how bad my acid reflux gets. My gastro dr and OB said it was completley fine so I took it the rest of my pregnancy :) A couple things that seem to help me are cucumbers, dairy, and aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice is used as a laxative when you drink a lot of it (pft which might be good if ur constipated from the pregnancy!), but for helping w/ acid you drink 2oz after each mealm :)
  • I have severe acid reflux. I've been on Prevacid (30mg) for more years than I can count. My OB told me to stay on it. She said it's safe for the baby and will be even more necessary during pregnancy. I really can't live without it. If I forget to take it in the morning, I have symptoms by noon.
