Cramping/progesterone

I just started my progesterone suppositories on Tuesday. Since last night i've had strong/uncomfortable period-like cramps. I'm not going to lie, it's starting to worry me!

Could it be the progesterone? Are uncomfortable cramps normal? When do I start being concerned?

Re: Cramping/progesterone

  • Hmm I take mine by mouth which has caused no cramps but I have heard that the suppositories can cause some bleeding from cervical irritation but I havent heard of any cramps. That is something you may want to call your doc on. He may want to switch you to an oral med or something different.

  • Yes I am done taking my progesterone now but they cause cramping. I found mine would start 5 to 10 minutes after inserting progesterone. Very strong cramps. Totally normal.
  • Yes, try not to worry to much. I am on supp. and have been cramping since starting them. I also have UTI symptoms, but have been told its due to the prog.

  • Yup, completely normal. If you look at the s/e in the pamphlet that came with the supps, you'll see that cramping is one of them. I know it can freak you out but try not to worry Smile They can even make you spot a bit by irritating your cervix.

Thanks ladies! I actually looked for pamphlet that comes with the meds, but there was nothing!
