I took LO to the pedi yesterday, he had watery eyes, fever, runny nose, and awful cough. It turns out it is teething combined with irritation from all the pollen around. I'm supposed to give him nasal decongestant for the next two days, then use saline after we come in from outside after that.
The pedi showed me how to get LO to sniff after the decongestant drops. Basically you hold him down and force his mouth to close so he'll have to breathe through his nose, then he gets the drops where they need to be.
Of course, when we get home, it doesn't work as well as at the pedi's office. Has your pedi had to show you how to do this? Can you explain it to me better or give me technique pointers?
I hate doing it. It makes me feel awful. But I really trust our pedi. He said to quit using the aspirator, and help LO get rid of it himself this way, and it will be much more effective.
Re: Nasal Decongestant and Sniffing ?
When I say it doesn't work as well at home, I mean LO just screams and won't put his lips together to breathe through his nose. We'll have to do this for awlie with the saline, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I'm confused. We've only done the saline drops. It's a spray. We just shoot it straight up her nose. She hates it, and we have to hold her pretty tight, but it gets the job done. I guess I'm not sure why the decongestant isn't a spray either.
Sorry, that probably didn't help you at all.
