I have 2 beautiful boys that I conceived and carried to term with no issues regarding progesterone. So when I went in for bloodwork Monday to confirm my pregnancy, I wasn't worried about anything.
They tested my betas and progesterone. Betas were perfect. Progesterone was only a 4.4!! The nurse said there was a "good chance that this wasn't a good pregnancy" but that they were going to start me in 100 mg of prometrium twice a day.
I have an ultrasound on Friday to see if there is a heartbeat. From everything thatcice found online, I am not getting my hopes up. A 4.4 is pretty off the charts low for 5 weeks.
Does anyone have experience with this? I am praying the prometrium does the trick and we see a little flicker. But until then, I'm so overcome with sadness just waiting to get bad news.
Re: Waiting to miscarry. Very low progesterone.
When mine was initially tested (at about 4 weeks and 4 days, it was a 6.6. My RE was not optimistic, as my beta was also low (about a 58). She immediately put me on crinone and had me come back for repeat level checks. My HCG exactly doubled in 48 hours and after 2 days on the Crinone, my progesterone was up to 12.5. She said that was high enough and stopped re-checking progesterone at that point. She kept checking betas, and they were more than doubling every 48 hours. I've had 3 ultrasounds, and everything looks good.
I know sometimes the low progesterone is a sign that the pregnancy is not healthy, but sometimes it's just low progesterone, and correcting it can actually save your pregnancy. I hope for the best for you! Don't give up! You're not out yet.
At 7 weeks, my progesterone levels were low. They came back at 6.9 when they were supposed to be about 11 or 12. My midwife put me on 100mg progesterone tablets. 2 per day. I haven't had any issues, and I don't think I was really having any issues or was in danger of losing my baby before taking the pills. The pills give me peace of mind, for sure, and they certainly don't hurt anything! Just be sure to take your supplements as directed and try to relax. There's still hope, and low progesterone doesn't always mean you're going to lose your baby. In fact, how are your HCG levels, do you know?
Also, if you saw a heartbeat on an ultrasound, then the chances of miscarriage are greatly reduced, from all the medical sites and other information I've been able to find.
