Spoiled tofu

I just made some instant noodles and added the fresh tofu we got at the market to them. Unfortunately a few bites in I cannot deny that the tofu has that sour taste (it has def. gone bad). Obviously I won't eat the rest of it, but does anyone have thoughts about how worried I should be? I am 23 weeks and I did pour boiling water over everything and it was all heated to steaming. I can't find much on the internet about the risks of skunky tofu... Any knowledge would be great! TIA

I think you'll probably be ok, and the only risks I know of from eating spoiled tofu is that if you eat enough of it (a meal's worth, I think) you can feel sick to your stomach.  I wouldn't worry, and if it were me I'd hold off on calling my dr unless I got really sick.

  • You're fine. I've been a vegetarian for years and have encountered spoiled tofu before. If you had eaten a lot you may get a slight tummy ache. Also, bacteria that grows in tofu is killed off a low heat. So, if there was bacteria in it, more than likely, it was dead by the time you ate it. Also, when tofu goes really bad you can smell it from a mile away. From now on smell your tofu before you cook it and if the plastic that seals it is puffy in any way throw it out.

  • Thanks ladies. Googling "tofu listeria" was not the best idea I've ever had.
