Ready to feed formula users question!

I have to use a specific formula for diarrhea for 24 hrs and it only comes in ready to feed...

1) how long does is stay good out of the bottle and what would u do if you had to go out for about 2 hrs what would you to keep it fresh and cool?

2) how do you warm bottles (dd has only had room temp bottles so I don't have bottle warmer?

Re: Ready to feed formula users question!

  • We use ready to feed a lot. Double check what the bottle says (it should have instructions) but for ours (Similac Advance):

    - it must be refrigerated once opened and if it's a large container, the entire bottles contents must be used within 2-3 days (depending on the container size/whether it's concentrate or not, etc)

    - you should feed it within 1 hour out of the refrigerator/container and whatever you start serving LO must be finished in one hour or discarded. If I was going out for 2 hours, I'd probably just put the cold bottle in my diaper bag and it would be a decent temperature for serving within that time (my LO doesn't require it to be warm, just not cold)- but that's just me. Others may say to use a cooler/bottle bag.

    - for warming, we just fill a large cup with very hot water from the sink and then put the bottle in there for a few minutes and we're good to go.

  • I used RTF formula for awhile with my first.

    1) I always treated it like powdered formula.  If they drink off the bottle it gets tossed in an hour.  If they don't drink then it is good for 2 hours out.

    2) I warmed the bottles in hot water.  I just filled a glass with hot water and placed the bottle in the glass for 5 minutes.  That warms it to about room temp.

  • It should say on the can of formula, but for what we use, it is good for an hour once it is out of the fridge. Stays good for 48 hours in the fridge.

Just put the bottle in a cup of hot water. It will heat it up to room temp. Just be sure to shake it good before giving it to little one.
