Hi,
I was looking at the website mentioned on the Easter post below. Smocking is not a huge thing in CA, so I don't see many kids in those clothes, but I love them. I was just wondering if anybody actually put their boys in bubbles? I love the idea, but they seem kind of girly (not that I have a problem with that per se (i.e. please no gender-identity flames)).
Re: smocked boy clothes - bubbles?

I don't have any boys, but my girls all wear smocked dresses, etc. (although I'm thinking my 4 year old is getting a little too old). If I had boys, I would put smocked outfits and bubbles on them, but probably not after 6 months or so. Maybe a little older if it was just for Easter or Christmas day. I'm the person that would put a baby boy in a smocked outfit, white knee socks, and white high tops, but I love the really old school look for babies!
It's not that popular here in Austin either, but in the area of New Orleans that I'm from, it's huge! Everyone does smocking on boys and girls. I say do it while you can!
Lurker here...
But where I'm from EVERYBODY wears smocked clothes until they're in Kindergarten basically. My friend still doesn't put actual pants on her two year old boy...just rompers, longalls and john johns. I would say bubbles for a boy up to a year. Zulily or Mini Social has a sale featuring smocked things this week if you wanted to try something cheap!
I personally love boys in bubbles and smocked stuff, but I'm Southern, so it's in our blood.
Love it and put my little guy ( 2yr 1mth old) in smocked jon-jons all the time. He wore bubble style until about 1yr and his Easter outfit is kind of bubble-ish, which my husband thinks look too babyish at this point, but I think looks ADORABLE. Love the classic style and I can't stand baby/toddler boys looking like little old men in button-downs and khakis....but I digress
Look at consignment sales and second hand stores , I find great smocked stuff here in Texas for both my twins.

Erm, I admit I had to google all of that (smocked clothes, Jon Jon's, and bubbles). Had no clue what you were all talking about.
DH and I have a deal that up until age 3, I can dress them in "cute" boy stuff - which I choose to interpret as monogrammed jon-jons. I have 3 boys, no girls to dress up, and dammit, I'll smock if I want to! We're in St. Louis, and the smocked, monogrammed stuff is popular for special occasions, but not day-to-day wear.
Ha! I was thinking the same thing! It's definitely a Southern thing! I love it!!!
Lurking, but I also had never heard a single one of these terms!! I was born and raised in Southern California. Thanks for the education.
