I've been with Sprint since 1998. I considered switching a few years ago as I had experienced some customer service issues. However, those issues were resolved and I stuck with spring. I like their smart phone packages (I think for DH and I, I'm paying about $130 a month total...and we both have 'premium' smart (phones). I've heard lots of bad about Verizon, ATT's coverage has been spotty in our area, T-Mobile reps have been too push for my taste.

I have VZW. They have great service but they cost so much more than Sprint. If it was not for the fact that DH travels to remote areas often I would switch to Sprint in a heart beat. Good prices, nice phones and good reception in the metro areas. I used to have Sprint before we got married.

I used to have Verizon, I hated their customer service when I had to deal with them, but they had better coverage. Now I have AT&T because we got a better rate bundling with our home phone. I have had less cause to hassle with them on the phone, so that's good. I'm not a huge fan of either but I'm content with AT&T.
Now that Sprint is rolling out 4G LTE, their speeds will match if not exceed Verizon.
With Sprint, you can get unlimited messaging, data, and mobile to mobile minutes, with no throttling what so ever. I have the unlimited plan with 1500 anytime minutes (only used when calling a landline) for myself and DH. We both have top of the line smart phones, so we pay the fee for 4G. Our total monthly bill after taxes and everything else is $140.
I work for the other company you listed (ahem, not verizon, the other one) and even though I don't work with their wireless division, i hear PLENTY of complaints about the network. Also, the engineers I work with all swear against ever having this company as their provider. Now, for Uverse, they are pretty good, but not their wireless division.

I hated AT&Ts service and LOVED Verizon. We recently switched to StraightTalk a pre-paid plan for the savings and I am very satisfied. We read bad reviews for their customer service but DH has talked to them a few times and never had an issue and they were very helpful. I love that we are spending 1/2 what we were before and we signed up online and got the free phones for a "trial period" so we weren't out anything if we decided we didn't like them. They use AT&T and VZW cell towers.
We have had verizon for a very long time, and we have had no problems with it. My sister just switched from verizon to AT&T and it's sooo annoying! Her phone keeps cutting out and she tells me "well I have all my bars" I tell her I'm calling from my home phone, so it has to be her cell.
Re: verizon or ATT?
Verizon. Never had an issue with them.
Now I've had a few issues with their phones, but they always replaced them, no questions asked

Depends on if you plan to use a lot of data.
