Hi Ladies - I know this is probably asked a lot, but I haven't been on very much in the last few weeks. I'm trying to transition from 2 solid food meals a day to three, but I'm worried that William might not get enough formula if we switch out a bottle for a solids. Here is his schedule, please let me know your thoughts on how to switch to 3 solids.
6:30 - 7:00 - 7oz bottle
9:30 - fruit pur?e and oatmeal
12:30 - 7-8oz bottle
3:30 - 7-8oz bottle
6:30 - veggie pur?e and rice cereal
7:30-8 - 8oz bottle right before bed
Do you think I'd be safe switching out the bottle at 12:30 for another pur?e?
Thanks!
Re: Feeding schedule
Definitely don't cut out a bottle.
I'd move his morning solid to 8:30, his second bottle to 11:30 and give him lunch around 12:15.
Thanks. Do you think I'll this will result in smaller bottles?
Probably not. My daughter has 16 oz at DC and nurses in the morning and at bed time on top of three square meals.
We've been working on less bottles, with more in them, ever since we added his 3rd "meal". He does get less formula than he used to, but he still gets enough. I believe a few women here have been told that as long as LO is getting 18 oz of BM/formula then it's enough. Our schedule is a rough estimate because Ty likes to snack in the mornings and refuses to eat for at least 45 minutes after waking. On average it's like this:
7:30/8:00 - 9:00 - snacks on a bottle (4-7oz)
8:30-ish - fruit puree, sometimes with yogurt or cereal
11:30 - 5/7oz bottle - veggie puree
3:00 - 5/7 oz. bottle
5:30 5/7 oz. bottle - purees with protein
6:30/7:00 we try table foods while we eat, he generally throws them!
8:00 - last bottle of the night - 5/7 oz usually
He generally gets about 10-12oz. purees a day, and 24-28 oz of formula a day. He used to eat 32-36 oz. of formula.
ETA: I should add, the reason we're working on less with more bottles is because he was eating smaller bottles more frequently, but with adding more solids it was like he was eating 24/7!
We have a similar schedule and she eats her second bottle at 11:30 and then solids for lunch between 12:30 and 1 and then gets another bottle at 3:30.
But we still have trouble getting in breakfast, she's not too interested after her morning bottle and she naps around 9 or 930.
Our schedule looks like this:
6:45 nurse
8:00 breakfast
10:45 nurse (or 6oz BM bottle @ daycare - takes anywhere from 3-6 oz depending on his mood)
11:30 lunch (on the weekends, we have lunch closer to 12:30, but this is daycare's lunch time)
2:00/2:30 nurse or bottle
5:30 nurse
6:30 dinner
8:00 nurse before bed
