I was diagnosed with MTHFR-- homozygous A1298C last August. My old RE had me take a special MTHFR tablet that he had compounded specially at a local pharmacy. It's high in b6, b12, and folic acid. Then my new IVF RE added an additional 4mg of folic acid each day.
I was just speaking with my IVF nurse about whether or not I will need to be on heparin or lovenox and she said the doctor said no because my homocysteine levels were normal. This worries me because when I had my D&C last April there was a VERY visible clot in the tissue.
Are any of you IVF ladies not taking heparin or lovenox?
Should I demand to take it even if my homocysteine levels are normal?

I have a blood clotting issue and saw a Hemotologist. She and the RE thought I just needed an asprin and a scrip folic acid. I have had two losses, both went down the same way to the day. :< But I didn't get the RPL testing till after 2.
IVF 2 failed, and I am not sure about 3 yet. When/If I am supposed to be monitored extra close.

I have other blood clotting issues in addition to MTHFR but I was heparin with my first pregnancy and my MFM took me off at 11 weeks because of spotting/bleeding. I think it was a huge mistake. When I met with them for my pre-conception visit, I told them when/if i get pregnant again going off lovenox will not be an option.
I also take folgard and a prescription prenatal that has a ton of extra folic acid.
Me: PCOS, Blood/Immune Issues DH: Low all 3

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
I have one copy of MTFR. My RE is only having me take extra folic acid and I take a b-complex vitamin.
It would not hurt ask to have your homocycteine levels checked.

it depends on what MHTFR's you have.
i have the 2 in my sig, i take r/x folic acid for it. i take lovenox for factor 2 which is a clotting disorder.
maybe you can compromise and take a baby aspirin as part of protocol.

W,
Is the supplement your doctor compounded have regular synthetic folic acid or L-methylfolate? Because you are homozygous for the MTHFR polymorphism (the most severe form), you have a very limited ability to metabolize synthetic folic acid. This puts you at risk for folate deficiency related pregnancy complications. Active L-methylfolate bypasses the MTHFR polymorphism. It is 7 times more bioavailable than folic acid. It increases folate levels and decreases homocysteine levels more effectively than folic acid. It is something simple and safe you can do while trying to conceive to be sure MTHFR related folate deficiency is not an issue.
