TTC After a Loss

Antibiotics while TTC?

Hi ladies,

Have any of you had to go on antibiotics throughout your TTC journey? If, so did you continue TTC or did you TTA that cycle?  I have am in the process of having a retreatment of a root canal done and my doc prescribed Amoxicilin.  It seems to be a class B drug so I'm not extremely worried, bit I thought I'd get some input.  I'm mostly concerned now with the meds interfering with TTC, but not sure if I have a choice any more in taking them. My doc agreed for me to hold off on taking the meds to see if I my pain healed on it's own but that doesn't seem to be happening as I'm still feeling pain :(

Appreciate your stories / opinions if you've got them!

 Thank you!

Re: Antibiotics while TTC?

  • Take your antibiotics. Now!

I was really irked when H. had a root canal earlier this year and they didn't prescribe him anything to take afterward!

I am so sorry you're still in pain! I wish I could bring you ice cream and a hug ... But take your medicine! Not getting a worse infection should be your top worry right now. :)

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

Yes, Mom ;-)  seriously though I know I have no choice but to take them :(  Grr!  But that still leaves the open question - do we continue TTC or start TTA'ing since I'm still waiting for O.

  • I don't think it will have any affect on you if you continue TTC ...

And next time, you must write about a much-more salacious topic. Obviously antibiotics don't appeal to the TTCAL crowd. Ha.

    Thinking about you!

  • Bahaha - silly me asking such a boring question!  Thank you, my friend, for responding :-)

  • I'll bite even though this isn't very juicy Smile

I don't know about TTC while on antibiotics, but just wanted to send some hugs - root canals are awful!  I'd take the antibiotics anyway to make sure there's no infection.  That probably should be priority numero uno.  (easier said than done, I know!)

After 22 months TTC and the loss of our identical twins at 10w6d, we're excited about our rainbow baby!

  • Totally different purpose and area, but I was diagnosed with a vaginal infection back in January. I took the first round, but it came back. They prescribed me a second course that I didn't take b/c I wasn't symptomatic and edging on the 2WW (and in prime fertile window).  I just got back from the OB, and she said that regardless of whatever is or isn't going on in my ute/surrounding areas to take the anti-biotic (if the tests come back positive still) because it's less harmful than an infection when you are pregnant.

You could put a call into your OB's office, but my guess they will tell you to take them.

ETA: Plus, it doesn't look like you're in the 2WW yet anyway. Take the anti-biotics (and of course, follow them up with a course of pro-biotics)

  • Thanks ladies. My doc wanted to see me again before I filled my scrip and he ended up drilling me again! Grr... And I am filling my scrip right now for the antibiotics.  If this fails tying my tooth to the door handle and ripping it out ;-)

  • I actually just added an antibiotic to my TTC medication regimen.  I had pretty significant endo (removed with surgery prior to my pg).  My doc now believes that I have endometritis, which has been causing me to spot after my period each month.  Now I am on 10 days of antiboitics each month for the next 3-4 months.  I don't think there would be a problem, as long as it is not a teratogenic antibiotic.
