Panic Attacks- no idea what to do.

I have NEVER suffered from panic attacks before. Ever. Lately, I have been having some serious bad dreams which result in me waking up in a full blown panic attack. It happened tonight, in fact (hence why I am posting at 2:45 am).

I just accepted a new teaching job for August, DH is starting his traveling basketball season (he will be gone a lot of weekends and I hate it), we are house hunting plus the normal stresses of carrying the baby... I am wondering if it's just a little much.

The dreams have nothing to do with any of this. From time to time (when I was younger), I would get night terrors but I never woke up in a full panic attack like I have been lately.

Has anyone else had this happen to them during pregnancy? Would I see my doctor or a therapist? I just need this to stop :(. TIA for your responses. I am at a loss.

  • I am sorry you are going through this. I had horrible nightmares in college but I wasn't pregnant at the time. I would talk with your doctor - you could get a reference for a therapist if necessary but I think your doctor would like to know regardless. Something that helped me a little bit was talking about the nightmares - recalling to someone else helped me deal with the uncontrolable fear I would feel at 3 am. I hope these go away soon!

  • I feel ya...I've been waking up in a panic lately, mostly concerns over money.  We barely make ends meet as it is with cutting costs however possible...I have NO idea how we'll come up with an extra $500 or whatever to cover child care without one of us (which would end up being me) getting a second job...and then that makes me even more panicked.  eeeekkk I guess it works out in the end somehow!

  • You are not alone, it is common to feel this way when you are pregnant, plus it seems a lot of changes will take place in your life. Talk to your doctor, it tends to get worse with postpartum. I hope you feel better.
