Two Under 2

Birthday within 10 days of each other...party help...

Hi, there!  We no longer have 2U2, but they were born as such...

Anyway- the girls' birthdays are June 6 and June 16 (with DHs June 9).  We are thinking about combining all three events for Saturday, June 9 at MILs house.  BIL (DHs twin) and SIL live in Florida, and will be coming up that weekend, so we'd like to try and celebrate all three birthdays together.

What are your thoughts on combining the girls' birthday party?  We think it will be mostly family and maybe some of our close friends, which are in turn also DD1s friends since they have kids.  Is this fair to the girls?  When DD1 turned 1, we had a large 1st bday party, so I feel a bit guilty we wouldn't do that for DD2.  I know she won't know the difference, but it's just my feeling badly about it.

If any of your LOs have close birthdays, how will/do you handle it?  Thank you!

Re: Birthday within 10 days of each other...party help...

  • Ours are 22 days apart and we'll do joint parties until they complain that they want separate parties. LOL. My plan is to let them have something special all for them on their actual bday (as they're older, a day out with their own friends), then for family we'll do a joint party. I think it makes it easier on close friends/family to do joint parties instead of having to come to 2 parties within a month.

First birthday parties are for the parents, definitely not the LOs. They will have no idea that they're sharing a party. Enjoy being able to share parties for now and cross the bridge of doing separate celebrations when they're older.

  • My sister and brother are 2 under 1

    June 30 and July 6

and my birthday is June 28

We always had our own cake on our actual birthdays but many of our family parties which was usually on a separate day around the birthdays (except for the biggies... 1, 16, 18, 21) were combined.  We love it and now that we are older we enjoy remembering our combined birthday parties.

the two of them also had their school friend parties separately (when they were at that age)

I am 12 and 13 years older than them and I still enjoyed our combined parties.

This pretty much exactly.  Mine are 21days apart.  We will have combined birthday parties until they complain.

  • As PP said, I too will be doing joint parties for my 2 until they start school and get their own friends. DD1 is Sept 19, DD2 Sept 5. This year we are having a big princess party at a park. I did not have a big party for DD1's 1st as I was recovering from C-section, so their 1 and 2 will be HUUUGE.
