Miracle Blanket vs. Summer Infant Swaddle Me

I have 3 of the summer infant swaddle me and am wondering if a) I need more swaddlers and b) if so, should I get more summer infant or a couple miracle blankets?  Both have great reviews, so I'm especially looking for input from people who have tried both (at least for my second question). Thank you!

Re: Miracle Blanket vs. Summer Infant Swaddle Me

  • I have both and have only used the Summer Infant ones.... LO breaks out of the miracle blankets within minutes.

     Good luck!

  • My first could break out of the Miracle Blanket and not the Swaddle Me.  We only use the Swaddle Me's for the new baby.  He sleeps GREAT in them!!

  • I think having 3 of the swaddle me's is a lot.  I just have one newborn size and one of the next size up.  Do you wash yours every day or something?  I use blankets during the day for swaddling and the swaddle me at night.

  • I love my Swaddle Me. The baby sleeps great in it. We use it at night and she seems to know that it's bed time/night time. I have three and that's all I need. Two would probably be fine. If baby spits up on one and you need to switch it out it's great to have a spare. I haven't tried the Miracle Blanket.

Thank you for the helpful responses! Sounds like I'll probably be fine with 3 (they came as a pack), so I'll just stick with the swaddle me ones.

  • DS sleeps in a Swaddle Me every night and has only broken out of it once although I don't think I had velcroed it securely. We have about 10 and we use them all. There's one in each of his 2 diaper bags and then he uses one every night. I probably don't need to put a fresh one on him every night but I do so we need more than 3.

  • I don't love the SwaddleMes only because the velcro is SO LOUD at 3am when you're doing a diaper change. It ends up waking up both DD and my DH in the bed behind me. Otherwise, they hold the swaddle well and my DD has yet to break out of them. The Miracle Blanket has no fasteners so it's much quieter, which is great, but then it has no way to hold the foot pocket in place, so my DD kicks her legs out of it within minutes. I'd actually suggest a Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack. The sack unzips from the bottom, so you can unzip quietly for night time diaper changes. Then the swaddle part velcros at the top, and it's quite secure - my DD has never broken out of that one, either.

this is a serious concern of mine.

  • I have both. I originally got the Swaddle Me and have used it up until this week. My little man is quite strong (just my observation lol) and he busts out of that swaddle no matter how tight we make it, it's like he's a magician or something. We were still making due with it just cuz it's easy to get him strapped down quickly, but this week he's outgrown the Swaddle Me length wise. He can't fully straighten out his legs anymore and he throws a fit when he can't. So we just got the miracle blankets... he loves them. He has foot room and has yet to bust out of the swaddle. I'm not sure how babies are gettin out when their arms are like triple strapped down lol. Oh and I have like 4 Swaddle Me's and 2 Miracle Blankets.

  • Haven't used the swaddlemes. The issues I had with the halo swaddles were that I had to fold the bottom half if the sack under DDs back to change her diaper because I didn't have enough room in the sack to change the diaper and all the fabric bunched under her seemed uncomfortable to her. Plus, the entire would ride up when I picked her up and would cover her mouth making it hard to nurse her in it and the zipper piece rubbed her chin almost raw.

I ordered the miracle blanket during a frustrating middle of the night feeding (Internet on my phone has cost me a lot :) ) and I love it. I usually leave the feet out of the bottom piece so I can strap her in the swing. It also doesn't seem to bother during diaper changes and doesn't ride up as much when I pick her up. In fact I haven't had any trouble nursing her in it or with it going over her mouth when she sleeps.

  • I've only used the SwaddleMe, not the Miracle Blanket, but overall I've been really happy with the SwaddleMe (and this is the third child we've used them with).

The pros: DS can't get out of it, so it keeps his arms in place and he sleeps great in it

Cons: the Velcro is loud (but I just undo it quickly to change his diaper then once I'm feeding him, he falls right back asleep) and they do seem to be on the short side - like there isn't much room for him to straighten out his legs (then again he was 22.5" at birth so he's pretty long)

We just had one SwaddleMe to start out with because the two I had originally bought were too small. It sucked because if he spit up on it or had a blow-out then we had to wait until it was washed to put it back on. The other one I ordered finally came so we are good to go with 2 of them now. I wouldn't think you'd need more than 3.

  • Both of my kids started breaking out of the Swaddle Me when they were just a couple of days old, but the Miracle Blanket worked great.  Although they could kick their feet out of the Miracle Blanket, that generally didn't matter--immobilizing the arms prevented the startle reflex from waking them up.

You never know what will work until you try it, and sleep is so difficult to attain in those first couple of weeks that I would definitely have one of each on hand to try if I were you.

  • I bought the miracle blanket because so many people said it was great.  It was horrible.  My baby woke up more often during the night and wriggled her way out of it several times.  She hated it and got both arms out.  I returned it after one night.  I also have the summer infant swaddle me and I dislike that one as well.  It's way too easy for her to get out of.  She always breaks out and wakes up.  The only ones that work are the Halo Swaddle Sleep sacks.  We do them really tightly.  We have four and weirdly only the white and pink ones work to keep her in.  The green one doesn't.  Don't know why because it's very similar to the other two.
  • to the person who said you only need one swaddler... totally not true. There are often diaper blow outs and spit up explosions and the only way to get sleep is through swaddling so I'd say you need at least three so you can swap them out if there are any accidents.
