Dryer balls: do they work?

We are finally starting to get a little sun in the PNW so I hung my prefolds to dry in the back yard. They are pretty stiff afterwards and I plan on popping them in the dryer for a quick tumble. Has anyone used dryer balls to help soften? Do they work and are they worth it? I was looking at "dryer magic" dryer balls online, but thought I'd ask on here before purchasing.

Re: Dryer balls: do they work?

  • I bought 4 wool dryer balls in preparation for CDing and I love them. We've had them for a few months now and I totally don't miss dryer sheets. Things still seem nice and soft. The CDs I prepped seem nice and soft. Glad I made the switch.

  • Wool dryer balls worked for us. They cut our drying time down from 90 mins to ~50 (drying 20+ prefolds).  We have 3 that I got off of babysteals, but one is MIA and I'm seriously upset over it! Next time they pop up on babysteals I'm buying several sets to give as gifts.

  • I love my wool dryer balls from Etsy. I have 6. I just leave them in our dryer at all times. They soften and cut down on dryer time (my main motivation for getting them). I bought them from this seller: CleanSypria

  • Thanks so much! I am glad I asked before impulsively buying. I will check out the wool dryer balls.

  • I have the dryer max ones (pink and purple) and they work like a charm.  I even use them with our regular clothes, I won't buy dryer sheets again!

I bought mine from her as well.  Super nice to deal with, great service, and quick shipping.  She also sent a pack of her homemade laundry detergent with it, which inspired me to make my own.

I thought I would miss dryer sheets and only bought the balls for doing cloth diapers.  I haven't even noticed the difference, and I'm loving not to have to hunt down dryer sheets in the store (the only ones I could use were the Method unscented ones, and they're really hard to find around here).

  • I love my wool dryer balls because they make the rest of my laundry have less wrinkles.  I haven't had to iron one of my husbands shirts in over two years.
