Work....

So we are still in the hospital. The doctor came in this morning and said Connor is doing much better but still doesn't sound great so we are here again tonight. So the Mr thinks I should go to work tomorrow and he'll call out and stay here. I obviously said no way and now we're arguing about it. He can't understand why I need to be here if he's here. If I went to work I'd get nothing done - I'd be thinking about Connor all day so I don't see the point in even attempting. I do think my job is going to have an issue with me being out - I've been out since Thursday and the other lady that sirs by me is on vacation. But to be honest I don't care - Connor is way more important. What would you do...stay at the hospital or go to work??

Re: Work....

  • That's a tough call...

Is your work close to the hospital? If so, I think I would try and go into work since your DH will be with Connor.

  • Id stay at the hospital. Being with your son is way more important than work IMO  Work will have to deal.

  • Can you remind me again why he's there? If your DH was willing to stay, and the issue is important but not life threatening, I'd go to work. While yes, your son is WAY more important than work, unless you could live without that income (if they did in fact have such a major issue with it), then it's important that you be there. But this is coming from the person whose son was in the NICU for 2 1/2 weeks and thought he'd be there for 4 more and seriously considered coming back to work because there was nothing to do but visit him, go home, visit him, go home.

  • Hell would freeze over before I left that hospital. My baby comes way before work.
  • At my job I could go in for a couple hours to get some things done.  Can you and DH split the time a little?  I don't know if your job allows you to do that.

Is your company big enough and do you qualify for FMLA benefits? If you and your company qualify, taking care of a sick child makes you eligible for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
