Has anyone researched this fully?
I have started to and am considering it. DH is completely grossed out. Now, I wouldn't even consider frying it up and eating it. That sounds incredibly disgusting to me. However with it in capsules I don't see how its any different than taking a multivitamin and especially considering all the good benefits it has.
There is only 1 person in Maine who I have found does it and she's only about an hour away. Is anyone else doing this?
I just don't see the grossness in having it encapsulated. I mean, our babies have been living off of it for months!! What if we can benefit from it too?
Re: Placenta Encapsulation
I was initially both grossed out and skeptical of encapsulation, but ended up doing it in the end. Nearly 7 weeks out I'm glad I did. Despite having an extremely traumatic post-birth experience (severe blood loss, emergency surgery, a transfusion and unable to care for DD for the first few days) I've made a great recovery with minimal baby blues. While I can't definitely attribute that to the placenta pills, my guess is they played a role in it.
If you can afford it and know someone who can do it, I definitely recommend it.

I did it, and I will do it again.
I had maybe a single day of mild baby blues, and I have a family history of severe depression, and even had some incidents during pregnancy where I felt undeserving and very down...so I was very worried about PPD. My H was incredibly supportive, which told me he was at least a little worried about the possibility of PPD too. And my best friend, who is the not crunchy, like not at all, said she would without a doubt do it if it meant she hadn't had to go through her PPD, even if it only lessened how bad it was for her. Those things really hit home for me, so I did it. And I had a wonderful experience. I've heard it also helps milk supply, potentially...and anecdotally we've never had to supplement either.
So yeah, I did it. I will do it again.
I'm in Maine too and I'm encapsulating my placenta. There are actually lots of midwives and doulas who will do this for you.
PM me if you want more info.
