I just found out that I am pregnant for the third time - the first two were early miscarriages, both in the first trimester. Before I got pregnant this time, my doctor told me that we could do baby aspirin and progesterone supplements for the next pregnancy. Before I got pregnant I was all for it. But now that I am pregnant, I can't help but worry that I may be doing harm. I've been on the baby aspiring/progesterone regimen for two days now, and I'm just wondering if any of you also did this for your pregnancy following a miscarriage(s). I had all the tests after the second one, and nothing was found. My doctor assured me it was safe, and I do trust her, but a small part of me worries that I'm doing harm. Did any of you feel this way? And if you did, what did you do? Now that I've already started it, I'd be worried what would happen if I stopped...blood clots, dropping progesterone levels. I guess I just want to see who else did this during the first trimester, and how did you feel, and did it get you through the first trimester?

Re: Baby aspirin and progesterone supplements
I'm still working on getting through the first trimester, but I'm on both (in addition to many other things), and so far am doing well. I've actually been on progesterone for my last 3 pregnancies, and baby aspirin for the last two. I've never suffered any ill effects. Everything I've ever read states that neither will do any harm to the baby.
Congrats and GL!

My Blog
i am on progesterone supplements. I get the shots twice a week. Both my ob and my chiro/nutritionis, who is more natural, say the side effects are minimal and no worse then an average medicine. The new form of progesterone has improved alot and is much better than the one 20 years ago.
This my 4th pregnancy. I am 26 weeks along and the only reason im that far along is the shots and all the other stuff i take.
The progesterone helps keep your utereus from contracting and having a spontatneous miscarriage. Your body is naturally suppose to produce high amounts of progesterone to allow your uterus to grow without freaking out. Also if there is a normal reason for the miscarriage say babys heart stops or is growing wrong. The supplements will not prevent a miscarriage. This was reassuring to me as if some thing was wrong then i didnt want to think I was preventing myself from finding out.
My last pregnancy I bled the whole time. it was awfully. Had horrible cramps and my water ending up breaking at 19wks 3days.
On average they keep you on the supplements for 12 wks. Mine kept me on it this long because my miscarriage was in the 2nd tri. But he said its also ok if i stayed on it until 36 weeks.
I felt the normal pregnancy symptoms in greater intensity in the first tri. But not outrageously. I think it just felt more cause my hormones had previously been so low. And i got through the first tri day by day. It was very hard but I just hung in there and had as much faith as I could. wasnt until about the 23-24 wk that i have started to relax. Which is when i told more than my immediate family.
Your not going to harm your baby. Your body just needs a little help relaxing and letting the baby grow. Heres to a happy healthy nine months!
I've been taking baby aspirin for months before even conceiving this baby and did vaginal progesterone until 12 weeks, oral progesterone until 17 weeks and now I've been on progesterone injections since then and will be until 37ish weeks.
It's okay...you are not doing any harm to your baby. I really wouldn't stop progesterone unless you are closely monitored by your OB to make sure your level doesn't drop which could be bad.
There are many many women who have taken these meds and have healthy babies
It's normal to worry about it.
I wouldn't worry too much. My Dr. put me on the same thing. I've been on Progesterone, baby aspirin, and a thyroid supplement since the day of my BFP. I felt so helpless and defeated after my first two losses (early just as yours), I just felt good about doing SOMETHING. This regimin isn't incommon, so I would trust your Dr's advice. GL!
