TTC After a Loss

What does this mean?? (long-ish vent)

I was feeling super about my OB appointment, and ok that I wouldn't know the results of the blood work we did today for 2 weeks.  I felt like I'd waited long enough wondering what the heck is going on, I could handle not knowing for a couple more weeks.

But the doctor's office called during dinner so they left a voicemail on my phone and said "Hi, I'm calling from Dr M's office.  Just calling to let you know that you're blood work came in normal."

WTF? I thought this was a little more in depth than normal vs abnormal.  Isn't that why we scheduled a whole freaking appointment to talk about it? Not to mention there were multiple tests done.  So I'm kinda pissed that they even bothered to call me, plus let a stupidly uninformative message about it.  So, does normal mean they didn't find anything abnormal so we have to do more testing because nothing came up pointing to what the problem is??????

AHHH!!! I'm so angry.  I'm not really sure if they're open tomorrow, but I'm calling anyway to harshly insist that if they want to give me the results of the blood work before my appointment than they should be more specific as to what the results were. NOT just some lame, cheery message: "everything was normal!"

Does anyone have any advice here?  I don't have the paperwork right next to me to remember all the tests, but the two we were most concerned about was my betas and my thyroid.  Does "normal" mean my betas are at zero and my thyroid is...well, normal?

  • WTF?? I find it hard to believe that all of the results are in already. I wonder if the person leaving the message was just referring to one test.

I have no advice. Just wanted to let you know that I'd be pissed, too. Of COURSE this would happen on a Friday night. I hope the office is open tomorrow.
It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.

  • Ugh!  I am so sorry sweetie.  I haven't had this happen to me personally, but I would definitely call them tomorrow or first thing on Monday and ask for specifics.  You're paying them to give you more than general info.

This is exactly how I felt.  I guess that's why I'm so confused, they could've at least said, "Just so you don't worry your such-and-such a test came in and it was X". Grr...

I had this same thing - the dr. Said it would take 2 weeks to get results, the the nurse called me the next day saying everything came back "normal". It turned out she only ran a few of the tests I wanted, and I have to see a specialist for the remainder. Call them back and ask what tests were run, and get copies of the results.

  • It probably depends on which tests they ran. That might just be preliminary results. Back when I had some done, they ran prolactin, FSH, progesterone, TSH, a bunch of other stuff, and I remember the results came in really fast.

I would call and follow up with the doctor. Good luck.

  • Argh, that is so annoying they just left that as a voicemail!  I remember after my second loss my dr, ran a bunch of RPL testing jazz, like thyroid, lupus/anticoagulant...etc (probably many of the same ones you had), and I got a very similar follow up where things looked "normal" and my losses were categorized as unexplained and bad luck.  SUCH a crock.  I would definitely recommend that even if you do have a follow-up appt where you get more information, getting your results on paper so you can analyze them yourself over time as well.

  • I think its strange that they left a voicemail with privacy violations & all. my dr's office will not leave any info on a vm but who they are & what extension to call back on  then I have to verify my date of birth so they are pretty sure I am who they called. I'm sorry they handled it like they did.maybe you will get some more answers. :)

  • Like the pp's said, I bet it is one or two tests she is referring to. My doctor said that all my tests would come back in dribs and drabs (is that really the right expresion?) and that we would just schedule an appt. for a few weeks out to make sure they were all in before talking. She did say she would call me if anything came back really alarming but just to wait until our appt. Its been a week and a half and I haven't anything yet. (Obviously I am calling at the two week point, there is no way I'm waiting for the appt.) lol

Give them a call and try to find out exactly what tests she is referring to.

How annoying! And it had to be on Friday night. Sadly, you're probably going to have to give them a call and ask questions. That nurse who called you and said your results were "normal" probably thought she was helping by putting your mind at ease. Little did she know it is actually the opposite...

If I were you I would insist on the follow up appointment. Make Dr. M explain everything to you in detail, and discuss where to go next. Sometimes staff members in medical offices do stuff like this before they know the whole story. Make sure you get your answer's from the horse's mouth.
