Help! Can't nurse for 2 days unexpectedly...

Hi!  I had a colonoscopy today and unexpectedly they had to give me heart medicine. So I can't nurse for two days . My daughter is very attached to nursing. We cosleep and she nurses all night long . Any ideas to make this any easier?

See if you can get a copy of McHales and verify that you have to stop nursing temporarily.  Very few meds actually require this, and most providers do not actually know.

You may find that you need to have your partner do the sleeping with her (I think you said she's 18months?  I can't see that post from this reply) and you go somewhere else or she won't understand what's changed.  That's assuming you want to go back to nursing after this, of course!

I also had to stop nursing for a week b/c of some medication.  My LO won't take a bottle or cup, so it was pretty rough.  I got her to use a supplemental nursing system, but at 18 months, I don't know that would be an option.  

During the night, DH took care of her.  There was nothing she wanted from me except nursing.  When she woke, he would rock her back to sleep.  She slept a heck of a lot better than she does when she's nursing all night!  The emotional aspect is so, so, so rough.  But you'll get through it, and if she's that attached to nursing, she'll go right back to it no problem.  Hang in there.

Thanks guys! We got her down really easy by singing and rubbing her back! Can't believe it , she's never fallen asleep without nursing before (except in the car!) hopefully the rest of the night isn't too bad! I definitely want to go back to nursing after this.
