you to bring them in.
Ours requested: sunscreen, bug spray, closed toe shoes, and a sun hat. No problem. But, we have none of that at home. They seem to be annoyed we didn't bring it the next day. When am I going to get that after I get home from work. Come on.
This isn't the first time they've been like this. It's weird. We'll buy it this weekend.
Re: When daycare asks you for things...when do they expect
With diapers and wipes, they usually give us a 2 day notice.
WIth things like sunscreen, etc, it's more like asap, but they usually won't give me the side eye until a week goes by. I'm pretty quick about that stuff since I know they just go without until I bring them in, it's not like they have spare sunscreen they are using my kids.

They go on a walk for like 10-20 mins once a day. I'm not worried about it. I am certainly not spending any of the 2hrs I get with my kid going to CVS. Even 15 extra mins on the way home is not something I want to do.
I'm okay with him being in the sun for a bit each day without sunscreen until I can get it. He was only there W-F this week (sick M-T).
We cloth diaper, so they always have diapers. The only extra stuff we have to bring in is clothes (until this).

Your list seems to be "your child cant go in the sun and play with out these items". The consumable items usually are a 2 day notice, but on Friday LO came home in a 'back up' diaper and there was a highlight and a star next to diapers. I checked the sheets for the entire week and no one had checked off diapers. The teachers are only in the room until 3pm and after that are floaters. If something is checked to bring in, i make sure it goes in the next day. LO's under 6months aren't allowed in the sun at my day care but I still had a permission form in the mail box requesting sun screen and the slip to be signed. There was also a note today about their 'closed toe shoes' only policy and many parents aren't obeying the rules. Their children will not be permitted outside with out proper shoes.
If they can't take every child outside then someone has to stay behind to watch your LO, which probably causes a staffing nightmare.
They have been taking him outside. They go on walks daily in the stroller. I don't think any daycare can require you to put sunscreen or bug spray on your kid actually. They aren't going in the yard area yet. So, shoes aren't needed either. He is an infant. A non-mobile one.

I think you are being completely unreasonable in my opinion. If my kids is going outside and they are going to be in the sun then I expect sunscreen. Ifnthe summer we are required as parents to put sunscreen n them in the morning. If we forget we mark the sheet and they will put it on when they go out. Otherwise as normal they also apply in the afternoon. My kid spends more than 20 minutes outside and they burn quick in the summer sun. They have community sunscreen unless your child uses a specific brand the uo can bring that in for your child. We all bring in a tube for the stash. Diapers we bring in next day. I also think you should have some type of shoe on your child. I think you are basing your logic on a lot of what-ifs. Just cooperate with them because it makes life easier and is good for your Lo
This. It has been unseasonably warm for march in WI (70s and 80s) this week and they have been bugging us every day for a sun hat and light jacket for my 4 month old since they have been going out on walks. I never anticipated her to be going out in March, so I didn't buy that stuff for the tiny size she is now. They can wait til next week.
How in the world am I being unreasonable? I am going to get the stuff. Just not the day the ask for it. We live in Massachusetts. We didn't expect them to even be going out yet. It has been freaklishly warm. They do not spend more than 20 mins outside. They walk in a stroller around the property (there are no sidewalks where is center is located). I was a teacher. So, I know about kids needing things for a classroom. But, I never asked kids to get it the next day.
None of these are "what ifs". I know they are only going out for 15-20 mins. They told me they aren't going in the play yard yet (aka no bug spray or shoes needed).
This sun isn't "summer sun" yet. It is still winter sun. He is fine for a15-20mins.
The point of my original post was, "I think it is unreasonable for daycare to expect items the next day". I still think it is.

You can still get sunburn in the winter. In fact, it's more likely since most people wouldnt think to use sunscreen then.
Our daycare is notorious for one day notice of needing things. When DS was in diapers, I eventually just peeked into the supply closet every week to check on it myself so I wouldn't get surprised.
It depends on the item whether or not I get it same day. Sunscreen and a hat are on the definite list when it comes to playing outside in the sun.
My eyes are rolling so hard into the back of my head at this.
Yes you can get a sunburn anytime.
However *most* people don't need to put on sunscreen, bug spray, etc, to go on a 20 minute walk around the neighborhood when it's 65 or 75 degrees outside. I go on a daily walk with my DD and I don't lather her up in sunscreen for a 20 minute walk. ::gasp:: You also don't "need" a raincoat if it's sprinkling or snow boots for a light dusting of snow. Common Sense is a very good thing.
OP, yes, it's unreasonable that they are expecting you to bring this in the next day. I think a week's notice is fine.
If they acted annoyed I would say something... it's completely InSANE for them to expect to send a note home the day before they expect something to be in. After all - they KNOW you are working parents- and can't just run out after "school" to get stuff.
my daycare would never act annoyed if you didn't bring something... they'd say "no problem - they can just borrow today", etc...
Glad I wasn't the only one. Ha!

and a 20-30 min drive. It isn't about being 10 mins in the store. It is about getting there. I cannot go on my lunch break and it will take at least 30 mins driving, if not longer. He was fine. They wrote the note on Wed. and we are bringing them in on Monday. That isn't too long imo.

When I get a note that she needs something, I get it to her the next day.
However, I always have extra things at home. If I didn't, our stores are very close. I'd just go there after daycare with LO.
