Working Moms

this is kind of funny but really shouldn't be

The health nurse just called me and said my daughter was in her office crying and had a stomach ache.  I figured she had to poop and was scared to go at kindergarten so I said I would come down and help her.  I get there and they take me to the sick room.  There is a little girl about 7 or 8 years old laying on the cot crying.  She looks at me and starts crying harder.  It isn?t my kid.  I tell them it isn?t my kid and the nurse says  ? I know she just isn?t acting like herself?.  I repeat that it actually isn?t my daughter and I don?t know this child.  The girls have the same first name and somehow the nurse found the wrong flie.

The poor kid was even more upset because she was told her mother was coming to get her and a stranger walked in.  I felt awful.  Glad I don?t work far away and didn't have to leave work early to get her or anything.  I am working from home which is 1 block from the school!

  • Wow it is laughable to read your post but if it was me or the parent of the sick child I would have been pissed

  • I completely agree with you.
  • Wow, that is crazy. I don't think it is funny at all. Poor girl.
  • I did follow up to make sure they found the right mom. She was already at school to pick up her younger kids so the little girl only waited an extra 5 minutes for the right mom.

I'm glad it worked out that way!  It is a little funny too though.

  • Awww, poor little girl! I feel bad for her but definitely see the humor in the whole thing!

  • I can see that happening.. that's a little funny, and sad for the girl! (I'd be a bit annoyed as well!)

In another case of mixed up identity: my son is 3 and goes to a regular K-5 public elem school for special ed services part of the day. We went on vacation for 2 days. I did email his teachers letting them know he'd be out. I get a call on vacation from the school's truant officer. She wants to know where DS is. I tell her he's with me. She gets a little pi$$y and asked me if his absence is excused. I can see where this is going so I give her enough rope to hang herself with. I tell her that it is excused because I'm his mother and he is allowed to be out of school. She starts lecturing me about school policy regarding unexcused absences (anything other than being sick, even with parental consent!) when I butt in and say "You DO realize he's 3 years old and is in the special ed program, right??" Needless to say she was quite embarrased and apologized immediately. Idk, it's a little big brotherish, but at the same time I guess it's a good thing they're keeping tabs on my LO..

  • Poor girl.  It is kinda funny, and it's a good thing you work close by.

  • Aw, poor thing.  Glad her mom showed up soon after & at least it wasn't a huge inconvenience to you!
