Blended Families

AW: So Proud of DC!

I just got a letter announcing that dc passed the first step of getting into the gifted program at school.  I am so proud of dc- I feel extra proud, if that is possible, because I feel like because of being part of a blended family, dc has had to go through and adapt to so much more than a 'normal' kid has to... and dc still is doing so well academically!!  I wish I could give dc big hugs but they are with their dad this weekend.

If dc gets in, one day a week they would go to a different school with the other children for advanced subjects, and throughout the week they would be clustered with the other 'gifted' children within their normal classrooms.

You may recall that my exh is trying to get my dc to change schools next year to his district (45 min away from our home), because he feels it is a better school and dc is not being challenged enough in our school.  I just emailed the letter over to him, and this could go one of two ways- he could be proud of dc and happy that dc may be challenged more if they get into this program, or he could try to block further testing because it would just be another tie to dc's current school, if they get into the program.  I have a little low-level anxiety about this, but trying to push it to the back of my mind and just focus on the positives here!

Final testing will be the first week of May.  So proud of dc!!!!!

  • Congratulations, that is very exciting!!  And GOOD LUCK on the upcoming test.

My son was in the GATE program (a long time ago), but it was such a great acomplishment and you do feel honored!

thanks!  I don't want to make dc nervous at all about the test- dc got a little nervous about the first round, so I want to do my best to make this next round very low key.  it is an IQ test- I have never had one so I don't know what to expect but I imagine at this age it is more about how they think that what they know.
  • That's a great achievement! Hopefully your ex will see it as such. If not it's proof that the school she's at is the right one.
