Pulling Hair

Anyone's LO pull their own hair?  DD will just sit there and tug at her head for minutes at a time.  I wonder if it's a thing she does when she is tired or maybe she just realized that she can do it.  I am not concerned - it doesn't seem to be bothering her, but am curious if anyone has a LO that does this.

Re: Pulling Hair

  • I did it when I was a baby and my LO does it to hers too. My pedi told me that its a self soothing thing. She said that babies will do all kinds of weird stuff to self soothe. Some kids will bang their heads against objects. Its some kind of rhythmic motion thing that makes them feel calm.

  • DD does this too.  She will rub her head & pull her hair when i'm giving her a bottle.  This past week she tugged on her hair so it pulled her head to the left...she looked stunned that it was happening!  It made me laugh.  The next day she tugged her hair & it hurt, I think she is just learning cause & effect.

  • My daughter does the same thing when she is getting tired. It looks like it hurts but she seems to enjoy it so I don't bother her and she isn't pulling out any hair yet :)

  • I'm glad you posted this.  My dd pulls her hair a lot lately.  Now I know why.  :)

  • My LO doesn't pull his hair, but his poor ears get abused :)  He pats his head with one hand and pulls at an ear with the other hand.
