Vigurl

thanks for your response - do you mind my asking, did you have to change companies to get bumped back up to your same rate of pay?

Re: Vigurl

  • Yes!  Quite a few times too.  Sorry but it is just the nature of the beast and the sucky economy rolled into one.

  • The beast is insane and misogynistic, I'm starting to think...

So it didn't make you look like a job hopper, having to change companies quite a few times in just 2 years?

Only one idiot I interviewed with tried to imply very strongly that I was a job hopper.  I still had tons of calls from employers after viewing my resume anyway so I guess the majority did not care.  I actually had 4 offers at the same time and picked this job all while I was already employed somewhere else.

Oh and this is my 4th position since Sept 2009.  Each with one with a salary increase and a shorter commute.  My first job back in the US I stayed at 9 months and then I moved on to a new role.  I actually left that one off my resume b/c I was trying to transition out of that industry.  Prior to leaving the US I had worked 6 yrs in the old industry for the same employer so on my resume there is some longevity.

  • That's great for you that you were able to bounce back in such a relatively short amount of time! (Even though those 2 years must've sucked).

So you're saying that basically, once I have a full-time, W-2 job I'll start to be more attractive to employers again, and even if I have to take something I'm less than thrilled with, I can explain it as "I had to get back into the permanent workforce somehow"?

I love hearing stories like yours, thanks. :)

Yes!  But take a job you really enjoy doing but may not really enjoy the pay.  B/c you dont want to take a job you hate with a pay you hate or you will be miserable until you can transation up again.
