And after taking my drivers license for my background check said "I couldn't help, but I had to look and do the math... I would have never guessed that was your age."
If you don't get the job call the EEOC. They shouldn't be asking you questions about children and age. I find it strange they are checking your background prior to offer as using background check results is also illegal.
It's amazing the amount of people in a management/interviewing position don't know basic employment laws. I'm just a hourly wage person and I know better than that. Then again at a previous job I got to sit in on interviews as the whole team would be included in that part of the process when a position was open.
My favorite blogger (Ask A Manager) covers this topic from time to time. Basically, those are not illegal questions to ask (unless your state specifically makes it so). However, it is illegal for them to use your answers against you. That's why a smart interviewer would NEVER ask in the first place! That's really uncomfortable for you though.
anyhow, just wanted to share, during my job interview, i was still single then, they asked me when im planning to have kids? i was wondering what that has to do with work right?
Re: So my interviewer asked me...
Cooper: 11/20/11
Julian: EDD 8/1/16
PCOS & Endo. w/ DOR
You'd be surprised at how many people don't realize that simple "get to know you" questions are totally illegal to ask. She probably had no idea.
That would have set a totally negative tone for the interview for me.
I think your siggy phrase says it all...
Wow, just wow.
