Baby Names

thoughts on Evan

Is this name getting really popular?

I love the soft masculinity of Evan and am seriously considering it. It has remained steadily in the top 50 for a long time, but I am concerned it is getting more popular. Same goes for Owen, which I also like.

Do you think these names have top 10 potential in the next few years? I really want to avoid a name that will "date" my child to any specific time period by becoming overly popular. I really love classic, timeless names, but it is hard to find good ones and they are usually pretty common.

Thoughts?

  • I know a few little Evans, but I don't think it will turn in to Jayden, like ever. Its pretty classic.

  • My 4yo is named Evan, we are involved in several moms groups and preschool and know tons of kids.  I just met another Evan this week!  So although it is "popular" on the social secruity website, I dont think it is overdone.  IMO.

I also have a 4yo named Evan and similarly, we haven't run into many others. It's popular, but it's not trendy IMHO. I taught an Evan years ago when I was in college and he'd be in his 20s now. So it's definitely been around long enough to not fall into the trendy trap of Braden, etc., I believe.

  • I'm with the others. It is popular, but certainly not trendy and I don't think even super popular. He'll run into a few other Evans but not a bunch...

    I really love the name.

    Go for it!

  • I am biased because it is my brother's name, but I have always loved it. I know it's high on the charts, but I honestly don't run into too many Evans at all- its def not overdone.

  • I love Evan! If baby #2 was a boy the name would have been Evan James or Evan Christopher. I say go for it.
  • My nephew is the only Evan I know, but he's going to be 21 in October.  I don't think there's going to be mass boom of people naming their boys Evan over the next few years, but you never know!
