Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Did your LO do this?

I thought some of you ladies here on 6-9 might have some insight...my LO is 4 weeks old. 4 nights ago she started around 7-8pm like clock work getting very fussy, crying out in what seems to be gas or reflux pains. This lasts around an hour or more. I can get her calmed eventually with the 5 S's and we are trying out dr browns bottles. It's almost like a switch is flipped and it stops just as suddenly as it started. Did you LO go through this? If so how long did it last? Did you end up with a colic diagnosis? Prior to this week she was a happy baby on the evenings:-/

Re: Did your LO do this?

  • My DD was like this - "like a switch flipped" from about 3.5 weeks until about 3.5 months.  It was a combination of things for us which just took us quite a while to figure out...  Reflux, gas pains and food allergies (I had to cut everything from my diet since I was BF) and colic.  It was torture.  Everytime the doctor said it would get better in a couple months I wanted to kill her!  "A couple of months" seemed like FOREVER!  It is better now that we have figured out what DD's issues were.  For you it could just be gas, or if your LO is on formula maybe try switching that?  I know not everyone has the issues we had.  It will get better though.... just take it one day at a time!

  • My youngest had what I consider now to have been colic. He cried so much, all around the clock from 2 or 3 weeks old until about 4 months. Then, I swear, one day it just stopped! I was so glad it did because I feel like we could finally enjoy him. He's just the happiest little guy now :)

One hour in the evening seems like maybe something you ate? Is he breastfed?

  • My ds was like that every evening for a couple of months or so. We called it the "witching hour." I don't think there was one thing in particular wrong with him, except that maybe he was just kind of tired and overstimulated by the end of the day (even if we didn't do anything that day. It's hard adjusting to the world!). We eventually conquered the witching hour by putting him to bed earlier. He still goes to bed super early - he is usually tucked in by 6. It gets better, I promise. Hang in there, and bounce on exercise balls, swaddle her tightly, and soothe away!

  • Thanks for your input ladies! LO is ff and is on similac sensitive. We tried isomil soy which she threw up and nutramigen which she gagged on and wouldn't drink (it smells awful- can't imagine how it tastes!) both were at pedi's suggestion. I had her at his office earlier in the week to have her ears checked since she was crying when eating during these episodes. I noticed this eve that if I can get her calmed, she drinks her bottle just fine. Taking her in the bathroom and running the bath water calmed her tonight. I'm happy to hear that those of you who have been here had an end to the madness- even if it's a few looooong months away:-)
