Rash from Progesterone in Oil injections? **siggy warning**

I've developed a rash on each side of my butt/hips right above where we do the PIO injections. Has anyone else had this?

  • I have not had this problem. Not sure what PIO means...

Is it red or hot to the touch? If it is call you dr ASAP.

  • I was on progesterone in ethyl oleate, and had some itchiness caused by my waistband rubbing against injection sites.  I tried to vary the location a little so that it wasn't in waistband range.

That said, doesn't sound like that's your issue.  I know that some people who have food allergies can also have a reaction to PIO, if the oil used has a relation to a food allergy you have.

I'd check with your doctor.  They may want to switch up the progesterone.

    Good luck!

  • This happened to a friend of mine, it was an allergy to the oil the progesterone is in.  Call your RE asap and see if they can switch you do a different PIO.  I would also ask what you can do to treat the reaction you are  currently having.

  • I left a message on the nurses line. It just popped up this morning and I've been on them for almost 2 weeks. I have my beta tomorrow and based on my HPTs, I'm pretty positive this will be my last night of injections Sad

I'm having the same problem. Been on them 2 weeks and have a rash on both cheeks that just popped up. One of them is really bad. I called the nurse and she said this is common, but didn't give me any resolutions in the email she sent me back. I'm sorry this sucks so bad :(

I haven't had this issue with PIO, but I did develop a rash on my inner thighs after being on prometrium for a couple weeks.  I showed it to my RE and she said I was likely allergic to whatever the carrier was for the progesterone and it happens.  I was surprised because I don't have any food allergies (or allergies in general), but she said you can be allergic to some versions of a substance and not others.  Anyway, she switched me to endometrium and I was fine.  I'd definitely talk to your RE about trying another oil version of PIO.
