Cloth Diapering

CD Dilemma...please help

I would like to use CDs exclusively...however, I live in a very small town and there are no daycares that allow them. I will be going back to work when baby is 12 weeks.

Does anyone only use CD part-time? Is it worth the investment?

Advice? Suggestions?

TIA :)

  • I have no advice or suggestions just popping in to say I look forward to the responses you get!  Much like you I think I am going to have to be a part time CD'er due to daycare but I am also a teacher so I plan to CD exclusively when I am home on breaks and summer vacation.

  • I've heard people who CD part time still love it but I urge you to bring a AIO Velcro CD to the daycare to show them what it looks like before you let them say no.  If they say no, ask your pediatrician to write a note saying that your LO needs to be CD'd due to skin issues...  worth a try, right?  ; )
  • we do it part time. I would say just buy a few diapers to try and dont commit until you know what you love. If you have to use sposies at daycare then make sure you use cloth at home all the time...even buying 10-12 diapers will save you money in the long run, esp if you have more kids. I would consider using PFs and covers since they are cheaper, or even fitteds.

  • Thanks for the advice...I will definitely take one to the daycare and use the power of persuasion! And will ask about a dr. note.

I've always said I would CD when I have kids...never knew daycares wouldn't be open to it. Crazy!

  • I don't know where you live and I actually don't use DC, but in my state they have to let you use CDs, especially if you have a drs note.  I would look into your state's DC regulations b/c I hear some DCs will say that you can't when in fact you can.  GL!

  • DD is starting DC in April and from there on out, the DC will use disposables during the day. I think it's worth it and more convenient to cloth diaper! She is 15 mos and they start potty training at 18 months with the goal to be fully trained by 2 years, otherwise they pay for all the diapering supplies. So I was fine with that decision. It was really really tough to find a daycare that CDs, apart from the long and drawn out application processes for the good daycares in NYC.
