2nd Dr. Appt. at 6 weeks???

At 4 1/2 weeks I had my 1st dr. appt. I made the appt just to confirm I was pregnant. I had taken two home pregnancy tests and they were positive but this is my first pregnancy and I wanted a dr. to confirm it. At the 1st appt they had me pee in a cup, checked my blood pressure, did a pelvic exam and a breast exam. When I was leaving they had me schedule another appointment. I will only be 6 weeks pregnant at the next appointment. Is this normal? What will they do differently at this appointment?

Sorry, I can't really say if it is normal or not. What I can say is I was pregnant about 3 years ago (had a little boy) and my doc would even see me until I was 8 weeks past my LMP. I'm pregnant now and they made an appointment when I was 5 weeks (I thought) and I've already had an u/s. Not sure why they chose to change their policies. Maybe because I', the dreaded advanced maternal age (37).

the exact same this is going on with me. this is my first pregnancy, so i'm just lost all around but i feel your confusion. I think they just want as much prenatal care for you and the little developing fetus as possible!

This is on the earlier side, but not completely uncommon. It depends on your provider. My first appointment is today at 5 1/2 weeks to do the bloodwork, urine, paperwork, etc and they said my next one would be next week or the following. It entirely depends who your doctor is. They told me at the second appointment they will do an early u/s to date the pregnancy, but if you have questions you can call and ask exactly what to expect at the appointment. I'm sure they'd give you that information.

@turtuga47 I'm due Nov. 19th

But I had my first u/s at 4w4d and I have another appt.1wk from today (6wk appt) just so they can check for the heartbeat and see how its grown. They also said my due date may change by the growth of the baby at the next appt.

it really does all depend on your doctor and what their policies are

Depends on the Dr. office.  I had a scan done when I was 7 weeks just to date me and see how far along I am.  It's better to do these early to get a more accurate due date.  They did a vaginal ultrasound and measured to find out I was 7 weeks and 4 days.
