Our local IT guy was in my office today to install some software for a new air card as mine died last time I was out of the office. Super nice guy and we chat sometimes about baking and such. Anyway, he said "Man, your computer is so old!"
Uh, it's about 2-3 years old. Not ancient. He pointed out how slow it is.
"Um, are you suggesting I have my laptop meet with an unfortunate accident?"
No. But he did suggest I put in for a computer evaluation. Later that same day, he stopped by and told me he was almost done with my new computer. I'm just giddy I get a new laptop -- mine does take about 5-10 minutes to boot up or close down. Then he frowned at my monitor.
"Do you want a dual monitor set-up?"
"you can do that? It's not a necessity." True. Would be nice but I'm not some techno savvy person who needs the latest stuff.
"Sure, no problem. I'll get you hooked up."
Sweet! So out of a busted air card, I get a newer, faster laptop and a dual monitor set-up. Nice Tuesday surprise.

Re: Gotta love unexpected upgrades
Nice!! I had to fight tooth and nail for IT to replace my 6 year old computer.
Dual monitors are awesome by the way. I love mine!!!
It's pretty much what it sounds like -- two monitors side by side. You can use it to easily compare various versions on screen or what many I know do is keep one devoted to IMs and email access and the other for a working document. That way you don't have to shut out of anything while you are checking new messages.
