Infertility

Intro (and not sure if I belong here?)

warning **pregnancy & miscarriage both mentioned in my history/intro**

Hi!! A little bit about us and our journey to have a healthy baby. My H and I are 36 have been married nine years. We started TTC 16months ago. Got PG last Feb. and miscarried at 8weeks, had a d&c (March 24, 2011) After >6mo of trying after the d&c, we went to an RE (given our age) and had a litany of tests and everything was "normal."

The RE did a clomid test cycle in November and we got PG again. At 12 weeks we had an NT scan and bloodwork (abnormal results, a HUGE shock) so we opted for a CVS which showed chromosomal abnormalities. We lost our baby at 13wk+4days (Feb 17, 2012) had another d&e (and actually had to have a second for retained product two weeks later- very traumatic) it's been a VERY tough month but we have a plan moving forward!

After having karyotypes done on us, it turns out I have a Balanced Robertsonian Translocation 13;14 as well as MTHFR (homo) so looks like we're headed to IVF with PGD.

So despite my ability to get PG, I have a HUGE risk of making babies with chromosomal abnormalities. PGD will allow us to test blastocysts (our clinic does Day 5 a-CGH with a Day 6 Transfer, so no freezing required.)

I'm SO overwhelmed with all the information and what a difference 6 weeks makes. I went from finally allowing myself to be excited about a PG, to learning of the problem to coming to grips with what it all means. I'm currently doing all my IVF "homework" I won't know my protocol  until my follow up after my period & HSG..so I have some time to learn all that I can.

I hope this is the right board for me? I'm so lost about where to post. There is no board for Translocations,IVF or PGD, but I've been on the bump for over a year and on the Knot & Nest before that....so it's where I'm comfortable :)

So I know most of the lovely ladies here are on IVF cycles, so I hope to be able to hang out here and learn as much as possible from you guys?? Thanks so much....

  • Sorry to hear your story and that you need to be here. I too seem to create a lot of chromosomally defective eggs so have some history in this area (see soggy). I have to do PDG with each cycle and RE had suggested CGH at today's meeting.

Ask away all your questions and hopefully we can help and support you through your next cycle.

    Multiple ectopics, 2 failed IVF's
IVF #1: Did not get to ET, embies all failed PGD (major chromosomal defects)
IVF #2: We have 2 chromosomally perfect embies as a result of PGD (Boy/Girl) 1 failed the thaw (Girl) Transferred 1, yet ended as a c/p
Thought it was the end of our TTC Journey 6/20/2012

  • I am so sorry about your losses and surgeries, that sounds emotionally and physically traumatic.  :'(

This is a good place for you to be (well, under the circumstances, since no one wants to belong to an IF board) ~ welcome and good luck in your future IVF!

  • Thanks so much, everyone. I feel really lost and would love to find a board I feel at home with and although we're all (sadly) on this board for different reasons, we're all going through similar protocols with hopes for a positive outcome. So thanks for welcoming me. My H is super supportive but I can't help but feel like this is all my fault :( He's totally normal, with great sperm and perfect chromosomes.... I just feel so broken- I'm sure many of you can relate :(
